James Hanna’s unique talent for blending comedy and gloominess, shines through in his book A Second, Less Capable Head. The tales are hilarious, absurd, and frightening. Furthermore, without exception, these stories are properly developed, and the principle characters are well drawn. A Second, Less Capable Head, the primary story enclosed in this book, follows Virgil, a Tea Party dissident, who finds himself developing another head. The other 18 stories follow suit in distortedness.
Although the stories bear no similarity in terms of characters and storyline, each do contain a principle message that readers can relate to. The characters and their dialogue easily attract the reader, almost baiting them, and keeps them engaged throughout.
Nevertheless, this book is certainly not for everyone. A vile feeling of incongruousness swarms the stories in this compilation, and the conclusions are often far from the fairy-tale endings most of us are accustomed to. I would also suggest that those who are prone to gaging at the mere thought of vulgarity, should stay clear of this book.
However, aficionados of parody and of short stories as a kind are sure to consider this a gem. The well-paced stories contain enough points of interest to get your creative energies running; the author gives the reader enough room to draw their own conclusions whilst reading, then knocks their socks off by the end.
Whether this book is your taste or not, it is difficult to deny Hanna's ability for making short stories that pack a punch and communicate something specific. I would not depict them as roar with laughter amusing - a portion of the parody is a very gnawing editorial on the present political atmosphere. The composition and story content fluctuate generally, albeit all are short. Thus, in the event you are a fanatic of this genre or a fan of James Hanna, it is a good choice for a quick evening read.
I rate A Second, Less Capable Head, 4 out of 4 stars. This book is really a gathering of fascinatingly bizarre short stories and is perfect for those searching for something that will catch and keep your attention. These stories are disruptive, but then you cannot help but to keep reading. James Hannah consolidates frightfulness and cleverness for some tumultuous encounters, you cannot help but like and need a greater amount of. Remember that on the off chance that you don't have a strong stomach, these stories may not be for you.
