I just finished reading the Desert Spear (book 2 of the Demon Cycle) by Peter V Brett and I'm absolutely star struck by this series.
The first book was The Painted Man / The Warded Man (US/UK, different titles) and it was equally amazing.
The books are incredibly well written and just downright amazing IMO. I can't wait for the third book in the series, The Daylight War. As far as I can work out it's due sometime in 2011, but when exactly is hard to find out and Brett's website is a mess :s
Do we have any other avid fans of these books here?

"As darkness falls after sunset, the corelings rise—demons who possess supernatural powers and burn with a consuming hatred of humanity. For hundreds of years the demons have terrorized the night, slowly culling the human herd that shelters behind magical wards—symbols of power whose origins are lost in myth and whose protection is terrifyingly fragile. It was not always this way. Once, men and women battled the corelings on equal terms, but those days are gone. Night by night the demons grow stronger, while human numbers dwindle under their relentless assault. Now, with hope for the future fading, three young survivors of vicious demon attacks will dare the impossible, stepping beyond the crumbling safety of the wards to risk everything in a desperate quest to regain the secrets of the past. Together, they will stand against the night."
The first book follows the 3 children Arlen, Leesha and Rojer up to adulthood and all the perils they go through facing their own inner demons as well as the monstrous creatures that rise at dusk and kill everything in sight.
They are really well written, I couldn't put the books down at all

As you said, the first two books in Brett's Demon Cycle series are "The Painted Man" (aka The Warded Man) and "The Desert Spear". The third "The Daylight War" isn't due out in paperback until March 2012.
Another Brett book, which I have read and enjoyed, is "The Great Bazaar and Other Stories" a collection of his stories which include Arlen Bales, an apprentice Messenger, and has previously unpublished bits not included in The Painted Man. "Brayan's Gold", released in January this year, is a novella by Brett which again features seventeen year old Arlen Bales and returns to the world of The Painted Man and The Desert Spear in an illustrated format. Sort of a continuation of the series theme.
