four books off the top of my head

Post by moviebuffoon »

'I Am Legend' by Richard Matheson: never should the movie be mentioned in the same breath as this stunning work.

'Happy Like Murderers' by Gordon Burn: the most unsettling book I've ever had the pleasure to read.

'Book Of Lies' various: amazing compilation of writings on the occult, bought to you by Disinformation.

'The Classic Fairy Tales' by Peter and Iona Opie: collection of the original versions of the classic fairy tales with excellent commentary and context.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know if you can choose just one or not, but if you can, which one do you most recommend?

I've only read I am Legend.
I haven't seen the movie, because I'm scared it will ruin the book! It is a really good book though, it is the only book that I have ever read that actually scared me. My heart was racing during certain parts!

I recently read I am Legend, and am also avoiding the film.

Reading the synopsis of the film, it looks like they have completely stripped out the whole point, probably on the basis that these days, cinema goers can't handle a completely catastrophic ending... Audiences must have had a lobotomy before entering, and therefore must be left with a squishy soft ending that gives hope for the human race... sigh.
