The plot, where Joey is thrown into a difficult childhood and thereby he battles with life doesn't seem unique. However, his passion for music, so much, that he even rejects love, does seem different which could hold you in. I am definitely looking forward to reading this one. Thank you for your review.

The pursue of a dream is never an easy one, especially if you don't have the support of your family. Therefore, many people get tired of trying half way. In a way, this plot sounds inspirational. And the fact that real songs are included in the story is a plus.

Tears and Trombones by Nanci Lee Woody is one of the best books I’ve read recently. The story is emotionally captivating and different from any I’ve previously read. Set in California in the 1940s, the story follows Joey, a young boy growing up under difficult circumstances who turns to music for a reprieve.

Fans of coming-of-age books will enjoy this "realistic, moving story about a boy who is in many ways saved by music." Of course, music lovers will enjoy it, too! I am glad you enjoyed it so much that you could not put it down. Also, it has well-developed characters and is well edited. It is not my genre, but I got my copy! Thank you for the beautiful review! :tiphat:

I've always been a fan of historical fiction and the idea that music can heal so this book sounds like it would be a great read for me. Thanks for the review!

This sounds like a very good book to read. I myself am not as big of a music lover as some, but this book definitely peeked my interest. I think that having characters with both good and bad qualities makes the story more realistic. I also think that showing the grit of life and the struggles that people go through make success feel sweeter. I am eager to know what happens to Joey and who he ends up becoming as an adult.

The reviewer does a great job setting up the book and making me want to read it. With the claim of "one of the best books I've read recently," a high bar is set. I was able to download it so I might have to read this one. Seems like an emotional, heartfelt read. Thanks for the review!

Seems like a good, slow paced, realistic story with well developed characters. The plot is simply, yet appealing somehow. I'll keep it in my to read list.

This story about a young who wants to be a musician sounds very interesting, Conflicts with his parents and things he has to face to achieve his dreams could be motivator as an example to follow. It is worth reading.
