STRONG HEART BY CHARLIE SHELDON
As the eye catching novel title states, it’s about the bravery of a young, skinny 12yr old girl called Sarah. She’s an orphan living with her stepdad, who, during the summer decides to take her to her stranger grandparents, Ruth and Tom, who actually are already divorced. She ends up with her granddad, who coincidentally had planned for a trip up the mountains to his granddad to pay his respects. She has to tag along, since no one is there to babysit her while he’s gone. Up in the mountains, there’s a disagreement between Tom and Sarah, which results to Sarah running away to the unknown for 8 days. She’s later found during a storm, skinnier than before, with a head concussion and a missing finger. She however seems too quiet and explains her adventure in the mountains alone. It might be a dream, but it seems all real to her; a kidnap by unknown people speaking a foreign native language and a voyage for a month, full of danger, adventures and lessons to learn. Her disappearance however leads to the sacking of tom from work. They all try to save the mountains from mining by looking for an ‘atlatl’; an ancient dart thrower. They manage to find it but with luck out of their way, it’s crushed by the mining company’s mean excursionists. They however get to have an adventure, in accordance with Sarah’s vivid dream.
I liked it when Myra, William’s daughter, was challenged by Sergei, Alec’s son. It was so full of suspense with both parties stubborn and unrelenting. It was nice to see someone stand up to her and challenge her legends and beliefs. They however come to a consensus at the end, but not without an almost fight had Tom and William not come in between. I least liked it when Sarah went missing. It changed my mood drastically with the worries if she would be found alive. It was so heartrenching.
I would rate this novel 4 out of 4 without missing a heartbeat. It’s so attaching and unputdownable. I loved it so much.
Its most suitable for people 12yrs and above. Its motivational, building, both emotionally and psychologically, and has no explicit scenes whatsoever. I would recommend everyone with the aim of reading this novel to go ahead and do it. It’s totally worth your time and actually leaves you in suspense of what happens next. How do they all get out of the forest?
This novel was exceptionally published with no mistakes whatsoever.
