Having a good husband, goes a long way, especially when the wife is fighting so hard to remain happy and loved. Hilary has my thumbs up on that, and so is Ed.

Yes the book did have really well-developed characters. As for me, it would be a tough one between Hillary and Claire. Hillary was interesting to read about with her strong maternal instincts, but Claire was always so fun!

I liked Claire's curious and energetic personalities although her curiosity would sometimes go overboard and make her mother, Hillary, restless. For instance, Claire persistent plea for her mother to give her a sister, something Hillary was anxious about since she was almost menopausal.

Ed was my favorite character. He really loves his wife and daughter and supports Hillary through her fears and doubts. A point of tension for his character was his desire to keep his family safe and also to support Hillary in pursuing the truth about Bridget's killer and research. I appreciated his struggle and the fact that he ultimately did his best to help Hillary and also keep them both safe.

Claire was my favorite. I enjoyed her sense of wonder and her fearlessness all while still being a kid.

Hillary was definitely my favorite because she wasn't a perfect woman, wife, or mother. It made her so relatable in my opinion because we all experience guilt and inadequacy.

I agree. Maybe it was because I'm a mother, but I found Claire delightful. Her mannerisms, her doll, the shoe shopping-- they all added joy to the story.

I really liked Ed's character in the story. As a husband and father, he is supportive and loving. I especially enjoyed his nickname of chickadee for Hillary. The endearment made me smile each time he called her chickadee.

I liked Loretta. She was able to make a connection to Claire and entertained and comforted her when necessary. She was helpful, patient, and creative - a perfect caretaker!

I often give strange answers to this sort of question because I have a hard time connecting to most characters in stories. So my favorite character tends to be the one I found most interesting from an analytical perspective, even if they're absolutely terrible people. Case in point, Seamus. I don't think he was evil per se, but definitely flawed and conflicted in very interesting ways.

Hillary won my heart in the story. I admire her resilience despite their several losses. She's a good example to anyone who aspires to rise in the ranks of success against all odds.

Claire was really my favorite. Her childish dispositions made her appear too tender and lovely to me.

My favorite character is Claire. She seemed to be the only source of joy in Hillarys life.
