Not necessarily take. They could have proved team-work skills. Couples are supposed to also be a team, don't they?

Yes. Who knows what will happen in the sequel. Hillary is also a bit jealous of Ed's way of being a father. And now there'll be the new baby too.

I liked Bridget too and I was expecting something interesting to happen to her or for her to do. I was disappointed by her death.

Yeah. I also agree the husband could have helped more with the investigating part, but I feel Bridget's character could have really boosted Hillary a bit. Especially if they had met before her death since they had such a sisterly connection. it would have made it seem deeper had the reader actually read them together instead of going off of Hillary's emotion. That's what I think.kmittag67 wrote: ↑15 Mar 2020, 17:43 I was intrigued by Bridget's character. She was a strong presence with a fierce, compassionate and loving personality. I would have enjoyed having her for a lengthier period of time in the storyline. Of course, once she is murdered, I would still miss her. The novel was a delight to read. I just wish there was more of Bridget.

Exactly. They are what their definition says, i.e. supporting. The novel is a whole and the author decides how their contribution helps it (or not).Amanda Newton wrote: ↑17 Mar 2020, 20:16 I never feel that supporting characters having their own voices really takes anything from the main character if they are all well written. I especially like seeing the main character's family!

Perhaps it is her "unfinished business" with her mother. Hopefully, when she clarifies that, in the sequel, she will be different.

I totally agree with you. If the author wanted the husband off the scene, she should have provided a more solid motivation so the reader did not feel he was not contributing as a husband should.Laurina_Olowo wrote: ↑18 Mar 2020, 10:16 Being someone who believes in the unity of couples, I felt her husband wasn't fully seen in the capacity I would have expected of a 'supportive' husband. If he had been more active, maybe the family structure would look more balanced to me

Indeed. Or, the author could write the same story from Ed's perspective. It would be interesting to read.ciecheesemeister wrote: ↑18 Mar 2020, 13:45 I would like to know more about Ed, but perhaps there is more of his story in the earlier books.
