It's a work of fiction, so the author just stretched his imagination and added a view to it

The author tried to justify Cain's motive for killing Abel by explaining why Abel's offering was accepted and not Cain's offering, which made Cain jealous of his brother

It all came down to jeaulously. Cain felt he was an outsider and that God accepted Abel but not him. He wasn't understood by any members of his family and struggled with it everyday.

The death of Cain in the Bible was because of Jealousy because God accepted Cain's offering and didn't accept Abel's offering. The motive of the novel was specified.

The Bible as well as the book did specify the reason why Cain killed his brother, Abel. It was because he was jealous of him, God accepted his brother's offering but didn't accept his, and this aroused jealousy in Cain which led to the death of Abel.

The Bible does specify actually. The book however, hasn't correctly portrayed the motive. To some degree, the author tries to vindicate Cain for killing his brother. Which paints God as unforgiving when he seemed Cain irredeemable
I'm here for a good time, not a long time. Yolo!

Although the book of Genesis is not extremely detailed chapter 4 verse 4-5 explain enough to know that Cain was angered that God did not favor Cain or his offerings, this was because Cain simply committed the action of offering to God but did not put in the heart or emotion. By this I mean that what mattered was the intent behind one's action (their heart), otherwise it would just be a ritual which God did not care for. This is correctly portrayed in the novel because it shows that Cain did not understand the reason behind the sacrificing and therefore never had the good intentions needed to be favored by God. All of this goes to say is that Abel had good intentions and a good heart because of his faith in God, but Cain did not which is why Cain allowed sin to enter his heart and out of jealousy and anger killed his brother. I think the amount of information provided in the book was enough to understand the reason behind Cain murdering his brother.

Of course yes jealousy was the main reason for the act nothing else. So I think the author added some details so make his work detailed.

The Bible actually specified a reason for Cain killing Abel. He was jealous and envious of Abel's seemingly closer relationship with God and Michael Tieman also tried to form a story around that, which shows that the jealousy did not start immediately after God did not accept Cain's sacrifice.

I think the motive for killing Abel in this book contradicts the original story.

Nerea wrote: 02 Jun 2020, 08:47 It does specify. Cain killed Abel because he was jealous of him. Why? Because God accepted Abel's sacrifices, but rejected Cain's sacrifices.(Ref: Gen 4:3-8) "His rejection of Cain’s sacrifice resulted in the wrong disposition being made clearly manifest by Cain. “The works of the flesh” now began to be openly produced by Cain: “enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger.”

As for the book's motives, I won't comment on that.
I think that means the motives for Cain killing Abel is loosely based on the bible. Jealousy, because Abel has all that should have been his; Strife, disagreement in providing sacrifices and having faith towards God; Enmity and anger when Abel tried to change his ways. This is purely based on what I think of the story. Anyway, thank you for the explanation.
