I go with the Bible on this. The mark was for protection.

I think I agree with you.

I agree that it was exaggerated. I don't believe it was an angel or anything capable of thought as depicted in this book. However, in a narrative sense it follows to make it more than it is. It's just another poetic change that the author made.

The Mark was exaggerated as an angel. An angel would not have succumbed to earthly lust. As far as I know that only came later in the Bible. I speak under correction though.

I don't know much about the Cain's mark, but I believe it has an important significance.

I think that because of how delicate telling stories related to religion is, people might be offended by some parts of this book. The issue of the mark of Cain was exaggerated in the expression of poetic license but for clarity, there is no part of the bible where the mark was referred to as an angel.

This goes under the umbrella of creative license, which is something the author did a lot of in this book.

I think they still connote the same thing, Cain's mark in the Bible was to protect him and in the book it was like an angel. They are both working for his protection.

The Bible does not explain what the mark is and the author leveraged on that. The mark in the story plays a huge role in developing the plot. The author manages to carve out his role creatively. But still, I don't think it was an angel. I don't think that's how the giants came.

Nazzo wrote: 14 Feb 2022, 07:06 Another interesting depiction by the author was Cain's mark. I thought the author really stretched his poetic license in calling Cain's mark an angel. In my opinion and from my understanding of the Bible, Cain's mark was placed by God to protect him from the harsh ramifications of his punishment. But this was different in the book.

What are your thoughts?
Cain's mark was a mark of God's protection on cain against the harsh ramifications of his punishment, it was not Angelic to me in any form.

I don't think it's a stretch to interpret the mark as an angel when we are explicitly told it's there for protection.

It's a work of fiction, maybe he was too fictious, but we are all allowed to have our opinions

The author really stretched his poetic licence, I mean for him to think that far and deep and suggested the mark was a man? That's wow

I agree with you Bennaji, the author did stretch his poetic license by narrating that Cain's marking was an Angel to protect him.
