Classic Book Genre Help/Recommendations

Post by Heidi M Simone »

Do you have any recommendations for classic books to read this month? Or are you looking for some inspiration? You are in the right place!

I'm sure we all know several classics, but here are some that came to my mind:
  • The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  • Animal Farm by George Orwell
  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

I recommend "Pride and Prejudice", one of my favorite books that I read more than once. I also liked "Little Women" and "To Kill a Mockingbird". Right now I re-read "Three Men in a Boat".

I've been meaning to read Pride and Prejudice for quite some time, but haven't made the jump into doing so...Little Women is another I've been meaning to read, however, I made the mistake in watching the movie first, so we'll see if I end up reading it, lol. Hm...I tried To Kill a Mockingbird, but I had a hard time getting into it. Not sure why.

I recently read Anne of Green Gables and really enjoyed it!

Seems I need to do some catching up on classics. I've read To Kill a Mockingbird years ago but haven't read the others. And I call myself a reader. :)

I plan to read Dracula sometime this month. I've never read Pride and Prejudice, I may have to see about that one soon! One of my favorite classic books has been 1984 by Orwell
Mad Hatter: "Have I gone mad?"
Alice: "I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

When I first read Animal Farm, I was ten, and I had no concept of allegory or why in the heck there were no pictures in a book about talking animals, but recently I read 1984 and it remains one of the best pieces of literature I've ever read.

Currently, though, I'm reading The Island of Doctor Moreau.

Dracula is a really good one. I plan to read Pride and Prejudice soon. The Anne series by Lucy Maud Montgomery is also a very captivating story. I am currently reading the #3 book Anne of the Island and it is delightful.
