I have just finished reading this book and would give it a 3 out of 4. I found the writing was good and flowed well, but I didn't think the story really contained much to do with sci-fi, other than telepathy between the wolves and humans maybe. The telepathy between the wolves and humans though made me think there was a bit of a hole in the plot. Once they established they could communicate why didn't they just ask the wolves if Randall was still in Zona?? You could see early on that he was going to be there somewhere. Otherwise I thought it read a bit like Jurassic Park with the prehistoric animals and all the fighting and people being torn to shreds.
I would probably read a follow up novel just to see where the author intends to go with his plot line. It was an easy read, didn't tax the brain cells very much.

In the beginning, it seemed to be a good one but i really didn't liked the book. Although I like sci-fi but this one was not good enough, like I wanted it to be.

Does anyone know another author or book with a similar writing style or theme to this book? Curious for these kind of stories lately?

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because of the adventures present in it. The expedition to Zona was really interesting; it made the book come alive.

I will give it 3 out of 4 stars because I didn't enjoy my later read compared to the beginning and I didn't like how the personality of the characters turned out to be.

Leen282 wrote: 01 Jul 2020, 07:50 I gave this book three stars, I found it an entertaining read but at times a bit slow and unbelievable. I would recommend it to others, who are into the sci-fi and fantasy genre. I read that the author is working on a sequel, I would want to read that one as well. It will be nice to learn more about actual life in Zona.
Your rating and justification very much match mine. I also look forward to the sequel.

The suspense in the book was what made it engaging despite the swing in the pace. The author did a good job and the book deserves a perfect rating.

I will rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.I enjoyed this story. The story well--a mysterious tragedy to be investigated leads an American geologist in a search for his missing uncle in a remote part of northern Siberia. The mission encounters plants and animals not seen anywhere else on earth and finds a Shangrila -like paradise

I am wavering between a 3 and a 4, probably like a 3.75 (if I could give that). I felt like it took too long to get to the adventure, although the characters were likeable in those pages. The adventure pulled me in a lot, except for too many descriptions of which cab was pulling which sledge multiple times. The scenes of fighting with the animals and each other were okay until the final one with the lions; I just didn't need the graphic descriptions of people and lions being shredded (like, I get it). However, I was smiling at the end. I really didn't know if Randall was going to be there, I thought the author did that suspense really well. I felt like the book was written well in terms of pulling all the elements together and creating a satisfying resolution.

Also, no typos! I did find a couple spelling/grammar errors, but nothing like all the other books I've read here so far. All those books have had 10 or more errors, and sometimes in the first 20 pages. Authors are being way too sloppy by not having professional editing or proofreading done.

The author has done much to develop the plot, with much success. I would rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. It was a good job, though not perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed Zona: The Forbidden Land from start to finish, and therefore rated it 4 out of 4 stores. Between beautiful writing, a gripping plot, and dynamic characters, I believe Fred G. Baker did a fantastic job producing a book that truly leaves the reader wanting more.

I most like the unique adventure Baker portrays, with what seems to be an entirely new world hidden in a very real place.
However, I do feel like even more information could be given to tie up loose ends left in the book by the complex weaving of characters and events. However, I do not believe this prevents the reader from being satisfied at the end of the story, and therefore I would still definitely recommend the book to readers who like a true adventure.

While the buildup did take some time, I rather liked the adventure! It kept me on the edge of my seat and honestly was not what I expected. I’d give it 3 starts out of 4.
