That shows how human mind can detour from goals, and also seemingly it detours the readers' minds as wellPearl Hijabi wrote: ↑14 Jul 2020, 01:10 I don't think sex is necessary in the story. But I also think it portrays how humans mind detour towards natural instinct despite the situation or the tasks at hand.

Books about humans definitely have to contain human urges, but only in an appropriate mannerEchez_ wrote: ↑14 Jul 2020, 01:58 Actually, for Grant to engage in sexual encounters is out of place. Although, how the author described the whole process was a bit annoying. But that's the whole point of fictonal books. Meanwhile, I disagree that including that in the book is unimportant. Grant is a human being and so should be prone to sexual urges

That is quite a way to see it. Yes, it shows the weaknesses of the protagonist

Seemingly that part is too much, even for a fantasybjoly2 wrote: ↑14 Jul 2020, 09:19 I felt that the sexual desires and urges of the characters were entirely in place with the storyline. Where I had trouble was with individuals partnering up with more than one person and seemingly switching partners at the drop of a hat. It was especially odd to me that Grant would be so easily swayed to have relations with other women if he was supposedly in love with Irina. I also found it ridiculous that in the end, Grant was to be the father to babies by two women who both acted as if everything was grand. Those must have been some plants to create a happy little love triangle like that!

Yes, there is the problem of how Grant got time for all of this. On the other hand we can't actually say what the author really thoughtAvocaDebo621 wrote: ↑14 Jul 2020, 10:10 I totally agree with the unnecessary sex component in the story. I felt a bit annoying to be honest. Grant should not have time for any kind of physical or emotional involvement while on the expedition. Maybe the author thought it was important enough to the plot to include it, so I am going with that one.

The inclusion of the scenes were rationalized, but the details were bit too muchanaplasticCerebrum wrote: ↑14 Jul 2020, 10:44 I think it was realistic such events occurred given human nature and that plant, but the author didn't need to go into such graphic detail.

I agree!Anna Dougherty wrote: ↑01 Jul 2020, 12:21 I do not believe that sexual endeavors are necessary for this book. Grant should not have time for a romantic involvement on the expedition. Although I do not think sex is necessary for the story I trust in the fact that the author thought it was important enough to the plot to include it.

It is up to the author to choose the content of his work, yet he has to consider what the reader might really expectGift Nwagu wrote: ↑14 Jul 2020, 14:29 The author seemed to include sex scenes in a predominantly adventurous book. Though it was up to him to portray his creative style, I believe as a reader, that an adventure book should tone down sexual encounters up to a "fade-to-black" level because it can be utterly annoying to adventure lovers who usually do not fancy this type of content, Those scenes where unnecessary.
