Is Sex really necessary?

At first, sex seemed necessary in maintaining the plot and overall outlook of the book. After plunging deep into the story it becomes exaggeratedly painful and boring. It excessive amount is the reason why I took one star from my rating. Otherwise, I loved everything about the book.

I would be dishonest if I said that the sex scenes in the book were totally unnecessary. For me, sex is a natural occurrence and everyone would normally have urges, it’s now left for you as a person to decide to physically get involved sexually or not. So generally, I think it was just normal for Grant as a young guy to have sex even amidst the quest of finding his Uncle. The book is a good read.

I totally agree with you on this, Grant is obviously a young guy, had to seek for a means of relief to himself from his natural urges, where as sex in the book may not really stand out to many, it gives the book a more natural feeling.

I think the extent to which sex was emphasized in the book was unnecessary. Although the author attributed it to the hormone triggering plants in Zona, it felt rather unnatural for one to engage in sex spree in the face of impending danger. Who else noticed the double standards in the book? If Zona's air and plants caused everyone to have an unnecessary sexual stimulation, why wasn't it the case for the Max?

The sex was kind of unnecessary, because their mission was more important. I was not a fan of Taylor at some point because of his promiscuity.

Sex was necessary as it is part of life, especially of men. For the women, the hormones present in the atmosphere in Zona was mainly responsible for their sexual indulgence. I think the sexual component of the story made it more human oriented. The crew had been faced with dire life threatening circumstances and found solace in the welcoming ambience of the Sheba. Sex is allowable and was necessary to relieve the near death stress faced by the survivors.

I feel it is necessary for the book because the book already had a lot of intensity and gory scenes in it. The emotional aspect was definitely much needed for the book to be very relatable.

I don't think the book needs any romantic stuff. Grant shouldn't be focusing on love during the expedition. Even though I don't see the need for it, I believe the author put it in for a reason.

It's not just Grant but almost everyone except Volkov and Yuri.

I believe intimate encounters are necessary. The expedition lasted for weeks, not days, and the members were in close proximity to each other. Given these circumstances, it's reasonable to expect that members would develop bonds and, in some cases, romantic/ sexual relationships.

However, I find that the author may have gone too far in depicting such encounters.

Almost every character seemed to be involved with someone else. Grant with Irina, Lada, and Tamara; Regina with Igor and Tamara; Tamara with Grant, Regina, and later Irina; Petowski with Valerie and so on.

This exaggeration detracted from the overall quality of the book to some extent. It seemed to diminish the depth and authenticity of the relationships portrayed.

I honestly do think most of the sex scene were very unnecessary and wouldn't have taken anything form this book if it was taken out. I think at some point, I found them to be distracting.
