I didn't have a hard time visualizing Zona. I just found it a bit weird that they went north and it got hotter, though this was a bit clumsily explained.

The concept of the larger and extinct animals is also interesting.
While it may not be 100% believable, it makes for a good story.
And it definitely got me interested in searching more into Siberia.
