Human and animals do communicate but not through speech.
Human can use speech for communication but animals will act in this manner.

I believe it could be possible. Naturally not in the same way than it was described in the book. But it is undeniable the depth of the connection that can happen between a human and their pets.

I think there is a connection that exists between humans and animals. How deep the connection goes is a field of study on its own.

The truth about communication is that it is not only used by words. Communication can occur through signs. But when humans communicate with animals then it's science fiction.

I agree.. being open to the idea is the important thing. Animal and human connections are very common but it is dependent on the human being able to read the animal and communicate from a place it understands.

I agree that humans and animals can actually communicate but not to the extent depicted in the book, it's simply unrealistic.

I definitely think it's a bit of heightened reality. I've personally never heard of people actually being able to speak with animals, but they definitely do seem to have deep connections and are able to understand each other almost in a way they could understand other human beings. I guess the only extent that I've seen this however is people speaking to their pets and the animals then actively responding to the speech, following orders, etc., as well as animals being able to sense human emotion and being active sources of comfort in times of stress and grief. So what I'm concluding is that when animals can directly speak back to a human, that would be fictitious.

I believe not, but a fictional book can create wonders in our imagination.

Indeed amazing connections can exist!! But the author went too much exaggerating about it!!

I believe that a strong connection between a human and an animal can exist. However, the more exotic the animal the longer it takes to establish a connection. For example, a human that has a lot of experience around horses will learn the signs that a horse uses to communicate distress. As far as the story goes, Grant's connection to the wolf seemed to happen quickly and was deeper than normal.

Human and animal connections does exist. At times they communicate in a special way that both understand each other well. The author in the begining was a good connection but in the end it was overdone and became fantasy.

Human and animals actually do communicate.They do that in a unique language that both understand.I think the author started off well at the begining but towards the end exaggerated it.

Yeah. I work with animals as a pet sitter, and I grew up with goats and chickens, and I've always been the type of person who is sensitive to watching how animals act and guessing what their behavior means. Animals speak through behavior more than vocalizations. Most good "animal people" learn to be aware of what it means when they use certain body language. I also think though that pet animals that live with humans pick up on what certain human words mean, and some animals do have vocal language, like bats, mice, and birds.

I believe humans and animals can communicate. Not in the way we humans normally would. But animals can hear sounds, read body language, and memorize patterns of actions. The author made it believable in the beginning—the connection between Grant and Shadow—but to some extent the author overtly peppered it with fantasy.

Fluent word for word conversation between Shadow and Grant is definitely fantasy. I think the author was simply 'exaggerating for effect', perhaps to show the depth of their connection. I do believe though that pets can be very intelligent in communication by action.
