This seems really a terrific novel with a lot of elements that are well mixed in ways that make them easy for readers to understand them. I'll look into this series. Thank you for your great review!

The great thing is that the author managed to design an entire civilization and fit everything together so that it is easy to understand and logical.

I know right? It all worked so well together and his explanation felt very natural and not forced at all!

I do love dystopian fiction. Plus, the idea of a short story before the main one is intriguing. I haven't heard of that before. I should check this out. Thanks.

I also haven't heard of having a short story before the main story. I really liked the addition though. Helped clear a few questions as I read the main story. Thank you for your comments.

The different races of sentient beings sound very interesting, and it's great that the author is a good storyteller. Lans does seem like a complex character.

I'm glad you enjoyed this book, and I think I might like it too. Thanks for your enthusiastic review and recommendation.
