Official Review: First Contact by James Jackson
If you’re much like me, and enjoy sci-fi, then this would be the appropriate book to read. I had no idea what would become of this book, but it has developed into an interesting read. In the very first few chapters, there are scenes of some sort of galactic space war. The author went into greater details and descriptions of the entire scenery. From all five senses, reading this would make you feel as if you were there watching it as a movie. That is something I instantly liked about this book, specifying each moment, walking you through each process. Just hope you can handle what this author will throw your way.
The book takes you into a whole new world, with possibilities of what would happen in the future for planet Earth. We are constantly hearing, while others are allegedly seeing strange activities and encounters, and this sci-fi would definitely give you a better grasp on the topic of encounters with outer world beings. Every character within this story, has either been an unfortunate casualty or played an important role as hope to save humanity. Just to witness in this book that everyone in the world, no matter they’re profession, religion, race, or level in hierarchy, working together as they should is absolutely powerful. Anyone who reads this, would be honored and proud to be apart of something much greater.
Throughout reading this, you get to experience perspectives from various people. Some who are apart of the government, the military, the typical Joes and Janes, and those from a different species. Knowing that everyone are enraged due to unexpected destruction and new visitors, they do their very best to try to comply with given orders from the outsiders, while they figure out a way to save themselves and everyone else. Each group of characters are on their own mini mission to find out why they have visitors, what they really want with the human population, and would they be able to get rid of them without causing more havoc or potential war.
James’ creativity has given readers clarity and better understanding of what would happen if ever there’s ever a First Contact. He goes into further depth, painting images with his words, allowing you to place yourself in this time as an onlooker from the outside. I wouldn’t say that it takes someone to view things differently to come up with the idea of the future, like space creatures invading Earth trying to take over humanity. He also adds a bit of comedic moments into the mix, which brings a definite change of mood while reading.
I give this book a rating 3 out of 4, simply because at times the specifics can go into details that may bore the reader. I’ve also experienced the feeling of receiving too much information too soon in the first few chapters. It does ease and go into an actual storyline, but the first few chapters provided a background on what you’ll be reading. That seemed to be the only thing that caught me off guard. My suggestion for this book is to definitely try maintaining focus as you read the first few chapters, it just takes awhile to get settled into.
