A group of highly trained soldiers is formed from the best military units on Earth and sent to Gliese 581 g, where they are to try and negotiate with the Idakan so they can send more humans to live on the planet, and if all else fells they are to take the planet by force. The only problem is that the Idakan are an enemy they cannot fight.
I liked the plot of this book, it did have a lot less action than I expected from a book like this, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as I felt the story of the soldiers daily life on a new planet and adjusting to a new way of life was interesting as well. Having to adjust from the modern conveniences they were used to back on Earth to the basics of tents and fire was interesting, as was them having find things to eat, and trying to make some of the things they were used to on Earth but were missing on Gliese, such as tea and sugar.
My main complaint with this book is that it felt most scenes were cut short, or did not go into in enough detail. It was an interesting story with interesting characters, but I felt the scenes were over to quickly and too many things seemed to be glossed over or explained very fast.I also felt that because of this tendency to gloss over things you don't get invested in many of the characters, and you also don't get an understanding of their motives behind their actions.
Overall I enjoyed this book, it was a fun read even with its faults. And though I would've liked to have seen the book fleshed out more, I did like the characters and the book in general. I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, it was a fun read and I would recommend reading it.
