The Days are Wicked is short story written by Nakary Williams.

Before I star let me just warn you that this might be the beginning of a novel. When I was reading it I felt that this was only a first chapter of a bigger project and even when I finished it I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to be told about Jonathon and his journey.

I knew very little about this book when I picked it up. I knew it was about a fifteen year old boy and a secret that could jeopardize his life with his adoptive family and that he would have to run to find his biological parents. He's part of another people, the Hybrids, and they seem to be the only ones that could help him but finding them won't be easy, since they live in a completely different world.

I'll be honest, I didn't know what to expect when I picked this up. I didn't know if I would like it or if the story would appeal to me but I felt that I should give it a try and see what it was all about.

I liked Jonathon and how different and special he seemed to be. How he believed that people could change even when he had suffered at their hands before. However, I wish I could've known him a bit better and that his adoptive mother had gotten into a bit more detail about the Hybrids. He truly felt seemed like a special and (possibly) lovable character.

As for the story itself, it takes place before his secret gets exposed and he has to run away, so this was kind of like an introduction to what would happen next. As this little story progressed, some questions came up and even though we got some hints to what exactly had happened, the fact is they didn't satisfy me.

It isn't easy to rate something that feels somewhat incomplete and part of something bigger and because of that I'll have to give it 2 out of 4 stars. Like I've said in the beginning, I think this is only part of a novel and for that reason I couldn't help but feel that it ended abruptly, leaving too many questions unanswered. It also felt quite vague and that there were a lot of loose ends that needed a better development. It showed promise but I needed more and even though it seemed targeted to a younger audience, I would actually be interested in reading the rest of the story and follow Jonathon's journey.
