Review of First of His Kind
The alluring possibility of establishing contact with extraterrestrial civilizations beckons in the not-too-distant future. Insatiable curiosity and the need to survive have led humanity to embark on risky voyages to other planets in our solar system. These travels have ushered in a new era of technical marvels, bringing us closer to the elusive dream of interplanetary communication thanks to innovations drawn from the same worlds we investigate. With every expedition to a new planet, we not only learn more about the universe but also have the opportunity to make contact with beings from other planets. First of His Kind by Dan Sugralinov is a science fiction book that paints a futuristic life on earth where there are constant interactions and expeditions between the earth and other planets and being in the solar system.
The beginning of the book takes place in the twenty-second century, when humans first made contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. Although there was no imminent fear of an alien invasion, humanity nonetheless entered the solar system in order to build stations, dig for rare natural resources, and benefit from extraterrestrial technology. The First Martian Company recruited Captain Carter Riley and his associates to guard their researchers, who were traveling to Mars on an expedition. Sadly, the mission didn't go as planned, and all the researchers and security personnel perished, with Carter suffering serious injuries. What had fought them off? Did Carter survive this journey? Carter became the "first of his kind" when the Precursor Cube, the expedition's only goal, played a significant role in his life and future. How did that happen? Find out in his book.
My favorite character in this book is Captain Carter Riley. He was an honorable man who refused to be corrupted by the selfishness of people around him. His wife divorced him, and he couldn't even see his daughter Micky as he pleased, but he loved her and bought her gifts. Even with the little he had, he kept on looking for jobs to make ends meet despite being unjustly blacklisted on Earth. On his way to becoming a miner for the First Martian Company in their outer space station Ceres, the spaceship he entered was hijacked by some pirates. He was able to team up with some passengers and take back the ship from the pirates; only a man of true courage would put his life on the line for others.
There is nothing I dislike about this book. Reading it feels incredibly rejuvenating. It offers us a completely fresh perspective on what the world might be like in 50 to 100 years. The author spent time providing a thorough explanation of spacecraft, enhanced Martian technology, and the interaction between Earth and our interstellar neighbors.
I give this book five out of five stars because of the captivating information in it and the excellent editing done in the book. I commend the author and editor for their wonderful work. I recommend this book to devoted science fiction enthusiasts.
