Review of Shadows of Deception
Shadows of Deception: The Missing Heiress is a thriller novel by Bob Waldorf, published in 2023. The book follows the investigation of a private detective, Jack Stone, who is hired by a wealthy businessman, Richard Morgan, to find his missing daughter, Amanda. Amanda disappeared two years ago, leaving behind a mysterious note that said "Don't look for me. I'm not who you think I am." Jack soon discovers that Amanda's disappearance is linked to a dark secret that involves her family, a powerful corporation, and a deadly conspiracy.
The book is fast-paced and suspenseful, with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the end. The author creates a realistic and gritty setting, depicting the corruption and violence that lurk in the shadows of the city. The characters are well-developed and complex, each with their own motives and secrets. Jack is a likable and flawed protagonist, who struggles with his own past and personal demons. Amanda is a mysterious and intriguing character, who gradually reveals her true identity and purpose. The book also explores themes such as family, loyalty, identity, and deception.
The book is not without flaws, however. The book has several grammatical errors and typos, such as "He was a quite man" instead of "He was a quiet man" on page 23, or "She new something was wrong" instead of "She knew something was wrong" on page 56. These errors are distracting and could have been avoided with better editing and proofreading. The book also relies on some clichés and stereotypes, such as the evil corporation, the ruthless assassin, and the damsel in distress. Some of the plot points are also predictable and unrealistic, such as the convenient clues, the coincidental encounters, and the miraculous escapes.
Overall, I would rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. It is an entertaining and thrilling read, but it could have been better with more originality and polish. If you like this book, you might also enjoy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, or The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.
