Rev is a science fiction novel by Conner Moysei. The book is not long, about 150 pages. The general theme of the book is human race and racism.

It is set up in USA some year in the future (it is not stated clearly). Human race has survived a very catastrophic chemical world war, but not without consequences. Some humans have developed some super powers and they are now recognized as a new human race, known as “The gifted”. No one knows if it is evolution that caused this or a mutation by chemicals used at the war or God. The US government has isolated the gifted in some town districts, but some ungifted, also live there. Everything seems to be ok until a gifted terrorist group, the Jormungand rises up to take control of the districts and annihilate the ungifted.

The main character of the story is Elena Levitz, a gifted policewoman who lives in a district that Jormungand tries to take over. Elena and the rest of the police forces try to defuse Jormungand. They are also assisted by a mysterious guy called Rev.

I liked that each chapter follows a different character of the book, even some villains. This is good (although a bit confusing sometimes) because the author has the opportunity to give many perspectives and unroll the life and the background of many characters. This also adds depth to the story of the book. What I also liked is the philosophical conversation about human nature between Rev, the “good” guy and Wolfgang, the villain.

The story from the beginning didn’t manage to nettle my interest. With an exception of the last 20 to 30 pages it was like watching or someone narrating the story and not living it. Only at the end the book became more interesting. I don't know exactly why that is, but I think one reason is because I didn't like the strange character of Elena. She is distant and somber with her friends, but humorous with the villains. Another thing that I would like to see is descriptions of the places where the story takes place. I think that it would put the reader in the plot.

Overall, I can't say I really enjoyed the book but it was not bad and became better at the end. I found some misspellings and typos, but in general it is well written. I would give 2 out of 4 stars rating.
