The title of this book is so long, it wouldn't fit in the Subject box. The full name of the book is The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

September is a 12-year-old girl with an affinity for the color orange and adventure living in Omaha, Nebraska during the 1940's. She's rather bored of life until the Green Wind pulls her through the kitchen window and asks her if she wants to visit Fairyland. Like all eager children, she says yes and begins a whimsical, though surprisingly philosophical, journey meeting a wyverary (a mix between a wyvern and a library) and a Myriad boy named Saturday while trying to appease the Marquess of Fairyland.

This is marketed as a children's book but I think that adult fans of fantasy and adventure would enjoy it, too. As I've said, the story is deeply philosophical. While it doesn't dumb down the meaning for kids, it also doesn't make it too complex. There are many references to numerous mythologies and stories that kids my not understand and some adults, too, but to the unknowing reader, they are fantastic creatures of the author's imagination. The writing style is whimsical, sometimes the author addresses the audience directly while keeping September's dark adventures light. Also, I promise, anyone who reads this will want more.

There are two sequels to the book and more are supposedly on the way. The two that come after are: The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There, and The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two.

A wonderful bit of whimsy to read for yourself or to/with a young one. Characters who draw you in and carry you along on the wind. I adored it!
