I am glad you liked the book, I have just finished it as well. I liked some of the the story, but the "planning" you so enjoyed bored me to death :) I love sci-fi novels and I read tons of them, maybe it is why this one didn't really stand out for me. Some parts of the story really feel like they were abandoned ideas - 10 pages long walk to the palace through the park with "live" sculptures, what that was about? Well, I am glad you liked the book. Happy reading!

I agree with everybody that the spelling and grammar errors are annoying, and Pennington makes some odd word choices. He really needed a good editor. I'm only a quarter-way through, so I can't say what I think of the plot just yet. On the other hand, I do like the world-building so far.

I just wish that Pennington would define words like "inseligence" and "psionipath." He also used the word "narcissist" to describe some type of servant, which struck me as weird. I know sci-fi often has neologisms, but it's a bit distracting to see a funny word and not fully know what it means.

Andreas sounds like an interesting character. I wonder about the other characters. I suppose there is his love interest, but does he have a friend that also belongs to the lowest race, and does he get left behind when Andreas goes to fight in the war?
Thank you for the review!
It was so gorgeous it almost felt like sadness. The Lake, Banana Yoshimoto

I enjoyed this book just as I do most sci-fi books, because they take us to a world of uninhibited possibilities. The setting, which is in another planet where humans moved after the extinction of life on Earth, was what I loved most. I believe that we can create a life outside of Earth, especially now that the quality of life here has been degraded by pollution, overpopulation and other issues. I just felt like the plot was a bit difficult to understand as it took me a while. Also, the names chosen were hard but, I guess the author had to give the story an extra-terrestrial feel.
