Book Review: Cursed by Jennifer Armentrout

Post by Kate_Emme »

I just finished the book Cursed by Jennifer Armentrout. I have heard some really good things about her other novels, but this is my first exposure to any of her work.

My overall opinion was that Ms. Armentrout has a great way of telling stories. The voice that she brings out of the main character is easy to identify with and very honest. There will be no spoilers here. Cursed is the story about a teenage girl named Ember who's litter sister brings her back from the dead. (Stay with me) In the accident that killed her, her father also died. Due to the trauma of the loss, the girl's mother lost her mind, leaving Ember to care for the family. The huge hitch in her new-found life after death, is that she is no longer able to touch anyone or anything living. If she touches anything alive, she will kill it.

As with most (it seems) YA fiction, a young man comes into Ember's life and changes everything. Ember discovers there is more to the world than she originally believed, and people in it who can do things she never would have thought possible. She needs to discover if she is one of them, or if she is a mistake caused by her little sister's action.

Cursed was a quick read, written for young adults. The story is compelling and interesting, and the characters are relatable. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult paranormal fiction.
