City of Bones review - Cassandra Claire
My favourite type of teen fantasy book is one which incorporates multiple different creatures. This series of books; the mortal instruments by Cassandra Claire, has every creature imaginable from vampyres to daemons. A well written fantasy novel for girls and boys alike.
===The Storyline===
We are introduced to the main character Clary Fray aged 16. She currently resides in New York, present day, with her mother and a deep mystery behind the identity of her father. As Clary and her best friend Simon sneak their way into a nightclub Clary’s world will change forever. All too soon she is thrown into the world of ‘shadowhunters’ – their job description; hunting daemons. Along her journey she will make new friends as well as loosing old ones until the final hour in which she discovers the truth about her father.
On your journey through this book you will come across vampire lairs, faerie undergrounds and the city of bones itself. Plus, of course, a flying vampyre motorbike.
===Genre===
The variety of different creatures and magic that is intertwined into this book sets this book apart as a fantasy/action book which will grip you till the end
===Continuing the franchise...===
There are currently a further 4 books in the series; City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and a 5th book scheduled titled City of Heavenly Fire (Date TBC)
Film
As you may be aware there has been a film adaptation of this book containing the actors;
*Lily Collins,
*Jamie Campbell Bower,
*Lena Headey
*Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Directed by Harald Zwart this film, released in 2013, is a very good movie which for the most part stays true to the writings in the book.
==Should I read this book==
This book of 512 pages is, in my opinion, a delightful read for any young adult (or older) who are interested in fantasy novels. This book kept my interest throughout and all the characters help bring this book to life. So yes, I would recommend this book for others to try.
Of course there is far more I could tell you about the book but I want to leave the mysteries and twists as a surprise.
