With the boom of AI, Anticipation Day touches this trending topic nowadays. While you get more into the story the thin line between reality and AI is difficult to be noticed by the characters. I don't really like the topic, but if you do, you should give a try.

My main aim as get down to read this book is to follow up on this group of friends as they participate in simulation. I look forward to unraveling the answers to the question posed by the reviewer. I look forward to an entertaining read in such a simulation moment

I understand how it feels when one needs more details in the ending of a movie or novel, especially for a novel as interesting as Anticipation Day. I agree with your sentiments on how Jeff Michelson put life into the characters. I also love more realistic science fiction stories. Well done for the nice review.

I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi (I find that most stories focus on details that my ADHD brain needs to skip and it ends up feeling like pulling teeth). My biggest turn-off tends to be the pacing and the proportions of amount of background info given in a disproportionate time frame. From what I've understood form the review, it seems like Anticipation Day follows a faster pace, which makes me wonder if it might be more digestible for someone like me. Any other readers who have experienced it similarly?

I just started to read the first chapter and I'm hooked. Joshua seems like someone I can relate to. XD Just by his demeanor alone! I'll be reading more tonight, when I get off work. I really like sci-fi books, so this one is going to be great, just from the first chapter alone!

This review highlights Anticipation Day as a thought-provoking near-future sci-fi novel exploring immersive simulations and their psychological impact. The reviewer praises the character depth and intriguing premise but criticizes the rushed ending. With vivid storytelling and relevant themes, the book is recommended for sci-fi fans—though content warnings are noted.

The use of virtual reality sounds interesting.
It sounds like the book makes a good use of the topic with letting the characters roam around in vr as a form of escapism, which is something I feel a lot of people today already do.
I don't blame them though.

The idea of escaping real-life struggles through a simulated world is really interesting. Alexandra choosing to vacation alone in Brazil, away from her unhappy marriage, shows how these simulations can reveal what people truly long for. Congrats on BOTD!

Thank you for the detailed review! I was really intrigued by your description of how the simulations in Anticipation Day aren’t just for escape, but also reflect the emotional struggles of the characters—especially Alexandra’s story. It sounds like the author uses the virtual reality concept not just for entertainment, but to highlight deeper themes like dissatisfaction and the search for meaning. I also appreciate your honest take on the rushed ending—it’s good to know in advance. Overall, this seems like a very thought-provoking take on near-future tech and its psychological effects. I’m definitely interested now!

The idea of the government using these simulations to motivate the population by requiring job maintenance, health screenings, and legal compliance adds an intriguing layer of control and potential sinister undertones.

First of all, thank you for the review. I am not usually a big fan of science-fiction novels; however, I do like that the plot of this novel isn't too far-fetched. I agree with you that with virtual reality, simulations seem pretty plausible. I also like that the book deals with psychological issues, like in the case of Alexandra. The rushed ending is the only thing that is keeping me from wanting to read this book.

When Alexandra goes to Brazil in her simulation, it's not just for a vacation. It's a silent cry of how unhappy she is in her real life.🐝🍄

Anticipation Day offers a fresh, immersive premise grounded in strong character work and emotional resonance. If you're into Black Mirror-style speculative fiction and don’t mind a few narrative rough patches—especially toward the end—it’s a compelling read. Just be prepared: it's more about meaning, feelings, and questions than techno‑resolution.

I love the concept of the virtual reality vacation. In fact how it can be tailored to your needs but it is beautiful. The idea that the government is in charge of it was threw me off.

Simulations that can put you into any body in any setting sounds like an intriguing plot! I enjoy sci-fi novels, so I'm sure I'll also enjoy Anticipation Day by Jeff Michelson.
