SunSmoke by James Killus: Breathe deep, while you sleep

A smog prediction modeler summons a Japanese Smog Demon over LA right before expiring, and plunges the city into the worst pollution ever. Luckily this is Southern California, so the hero, another modeler, knows the exact eclectic blend of people to deal with the problem. What happens is a combination of modern magic, science, martial arts and dark humor that rather sounds like a camping trip I take every year. Sure there are holes, but the book was so much fun to read it didn't matter.

It's a fast an easy read, nice and light.
