Age of Aztec by James Lovegrove

Post by Romulus »

The god punk series written by a British author James Lovegrove is one of the unusual and yet one of the interesting novels I ever read. Our enemies in this universe can be anyone or anything who pose as deities yet they play the roles of their respective pantheons so well they manage to stamp any resistance against them and managed to submit humanity to their knees leaving the few brave but weaker ones to challenge against their divine authority. Most of the world's governments depending on which novel of this series still stands intact seemingly enjoying new golden age or business as usual like our universe but as you read on things are not all what it seems. The gods may offer peace, unity among humanity under a common banner but it is actually theocratic dystopian novel where anyone questioning their power is ruthlessly crushed, human sacrifices are a common sight in some cases, mankind are no more than slaves, pets or toys to the gods. Some times man is called on by the gods to protect his own species from total annihilation.

The idea that an alien or some human being posing as gods to rule over our planet under theocratic empire has been explored in many science fiction books, movies and comics. But the idea of Gods actually existing in some plane of existence or may be aliens who may have ascended to that level ruling over humanity directly under a divine dictatorship makes an interesting story, an original one worth checking out and along the way. The heroes or heroines are not someone the pantheons have chosen but someone who is an atheist who chose to resist against them or may be assisted by a sympathetic member of a pantheon, someone who remembers a time when mankind have free will.
