TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow

Post by jason40361 »

TimeRiders is a science fiction series by the British author Alex Scarrow. In TimeRiders, the first book of the series, three teenagers are recruited by a mysterious old man. The three of them have to police time and stop people from messing around with it in the future. I really enjoyed this book and the series because of the content and the author's writing style.

In the middle of a life and death situation, three teenagers, Liam, Maddy and Sal all find an old man who claims that he can save them, and all of them decide to come with him. Moments later, Liam, Maddy and Sal wake up and find the old man, named Foster, in which he tells them the truth; the reason they were saved. Foster informs them that in the future, the world is an overpopulated, overcrowded and poisonous place, and also, the time machine is invented. He also explains that due to the horrible living conditions of the future, many people want to go back to the past to change history to the future a better place. However, Foster explains that history can only go one way and one way only. Therefore, Liam, Sal and Maddy, who are the "riders" of time, have the job of making sure history doesn't steer off course.

I think this book is really well written and well structured because the plot was very cleverly made. It follows up logically and made sense. I think the author really did a good job on building the backgrounds of each of the main characters and to show their personality as well as what kind of person they are. Liam, who is from the 1900s, acts as if everything he sees is really amazing and futuristic, whereas Maddy, who is from 2010, and Sal, who is from 2026, finds him facinating and amusing.

I also really like the fact that the Alex Scarrow foreshadows future events of other sequels in the series in the first book. The infrastructure of the book is really well organized. Overall, I think this is a great book to read if you're in for an adventure through time!

In the end, I think I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars because it is well organized, well written and the use of foreshadowing is abundantly used. The characters are also interesting and the reader can get easily attached to them. The plot also follows logically and well written. I would recommend TimeRiders to anyone is loves reading about Science Fiction and loves time travel. I really enjoyed reading this and the other books in this series. To anyone who is up for an adventure, this book and this series is for you.
