Following Allison through her struggles, first as prey to the predators around her, then as the predator herself, is intriguing.
We learn the ins and outs of vampirism, as she learns, and that not all is as it seems.
We watch as she learns the truth of the virus and it's cause, as she stumbles through life as a new vampire, learning from her sire, Kanin. But Kanin has some secrets of his own.
Soon she's forced to leave, to make her way across the places ruled by the rabids (think vampire, zombie, hybred but worse) on a mission she can't begin to understand.
Seperated from her teacher Allison finds friends and foes on her way down a rabbit hole full of hope, hate, death, and love.
This book kept me turning pages long after I should've been asleep. It made me laugh out loud, and broke my heart, and I loved every minute of it.
Allison is a good, strong, character. Kanin breaks my heart. I love him. He is a perfect counterpoint for Allison.
So many characters live and breath in these books. I couldn't pick a favorite if I tried.
Plus, she has a sword, I love a strong heroin with a sword.
What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.
