BioShock Rapture by John Shirley

Post by Zozo_Baggins »

This book may be unfamiliar to anyone who has not heard of the game or who is not a gamer in their free time, but this book can be read by anyone regardless. This acts as a prequel to the game so is quite important to read first if you want to appreciate the game in its entirety.
The story starts with a man called Andrew Ryan who is quite angry at how the world is acting in response to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki from World War 2. This results in him wanting to build a utopian city underneath the sea where only the most worthy of people are let in to ensure everything runs smoothly. But as events unfold, knowledge of science progresses at a rapid rate and soon a man has created plasmids which give people the power to shoot electric bolts from their hands and become ten times stronger than they already are.
Obviously, this can't all run smoothly as Andrew Ryan intended and pretty soon everything takes a turn for the worst as people are killed and trapped in this once peaceful city.
