The Saga of Recluse Series by L.E. Modesitt Jr.

Post by NVJones »

I love to read Sci-fi and Fantasy, and when the two are combined...well, what's that saying about the best of both worlds? L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s Magic of Recluse does just that. It starts out heavily fantasy with the Magii of Cyador (though this was not the first book written in the series)and then it jumps to Sci -fi in the third book, Fall of Angels. It then reverts back to fantasy. Modesitt wrote the series out of order, which made it confusing for most readers to follow it chronologically. However, if you are a steadfast fan, you will do your research and read them in order, even after you've already read the series as they were written. The stories are just that good. They are like friends that I look forward to visiting annually. Though some have said his writing can be ponderous, I found his attention to detail to be just right. His world building skills are phenomenal and his characters are lovable or you love to hate them.
If you're looking for a thoroughly engrossing read, one you can spend a weekend or two binging on, this is the series for you. You'll laugh, your heart will race and you won't be able to put them down. You might even play hookie from work for these books!
You can find the chronological reading order of The Saga of Recluse at travelinlibrarian.
