Combine the adventure of Wonderland with the magical escapade of the city of Emerald, and the result is The Wizard in Wonderland by talented author Ron Glick. In this book, he has presented the best of both worlds. Dorothy, who had revealed that Oz was not really a sorcerer, is now friends with him. Glinda, the good witch of the south, and Ozma, the princess of Ozmaland, reveal to Dorothy that Oz is a prisoner in the city of Emerald. They explain to her that Oz had created the Emerald city after disappearing Ozmaland with the help of Mombi, a wicked witch. They tell her that Oz has escaped this city. Dorothy considers Oz her true friend; therefore, she decides that she will bring him back to the Emerald city. With the help of magic, Ozma sends Dorothy to the place where Oz was last seen. The magic sends Dorothy to the Wonderland, where she meets Alice. A Certain turn of the events sends Alice to the Emerald city while Dorothy begins her journey in the Wonderland. This switch of places is quite engaging. As a reader, I enjoyed reliving the amusing journey of both the worlds.
The plot of this book is very amusing. The description of the both the worlds is magnificent. It was fascinating to me to see the Wonderland from the eyes of a character other than Alice. Similarly, seeing the world of Oz from the eyes of ever-curious Alice was captivating. The story of the wicked witches, the good witches, and battle among them is very well written.
Reading about the characters of Lewis Carroll from the imagination of Ron Glick was very intriguing to me. I am delighted to announce that he has not disappointed in capturing the essence of these characters. The twist of words that I read in Alice in Wonderland is captured by Ron, flawlessly. The madness of Hatter made me laugh as much as it did in Alice in Wonderland. The “Off with your head” dialogue of the queen of hearts brought a smile to my face. The author of The Wizard in Wonderland has retained the hysterical exchange of dialogues among the characters of the Wonderland, and this is worth an applause.
Nonetheless, I could not help but wish for more depth in the characterization of Alice. The characteristics of Alice that I fell in love with are somewhat missing in this book. I missed her habit of throwing grand words around and then patting herself on the back for it. If the elements of Alice's innocence, curiosity and wit could be added to the plot, it would gain the attraction of a huge fan following of Alice in Wonderland. I wished to see the funny songs and poems like the ones that Lewis Carroll had added in his book.
I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This is an excellent read, the story is fantastic, the madness of the characters of Wonderland is rib-tickling; however, in my opinion, the character of Alice needs improvement. I would recommend this book to the reader who enjoyed The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. The familiarity of the characters brought a smile to my face. However, if you have not read these books, I would suggest read these first in order to enjoy the work of the author in The Wizard in Wonderland.

I would give Wicked a try and wait for your opinion of The Wizard in Wonderland.kimmyschemy06 wrote:The other version of The Wizard of Oz I was able to read was Wicked, by Gregory Maguire, which I enjoyed. Swapping characters between two classic children's books is kind of creative. Sounds like an interesting read to me. Good job on the review.
