Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee
I am sure you have heard of zombie apocalypse, how about angel apocalypse. Yes, the beautiful creatures who are supposed to be divine are destructing the world.Angels are violent creatures.
So I noticed. I used to think they were all sweet and kind.
Why would you think that? Even in your Bible, we’re harbingers of doom, willing and able to destroy entire cities. Just because we sometimes warned one or two of you beforehand doesn’t make us altruistic.
In all this chaos, Penryn the seventeen year old human girl who wanted to survive this apocalypse with her mother and sister gets sucked in the problem because the warrior angels has captured her sister and are flying away and she will stake anything to save her sister from those divine beings. Even if she has to befriend an angel
On the other hand, Raffe is a warrior who has lost his wings in a fight and is lying in a death state. Penryn rescues him and in return she wants to know the location of her sister.
Together they travel and rely on each other for their own benefits of getting what they want. They are not stopping until they have got what they want and they don’t mind killing whoever stands in their way. Penryn to the rescue of her sister and Raffe to get back his wings.
Different mission yet the same destination. What the destiny unravels for them stays a surprise.
I totally loved this book, 5/5 ratings. It was mind blowing and I couldn't keep the book down. I had to continue reading the book cause there were so many things that you could look forward to. Sometimes when you feel like smacking the angel yet you wanna hug him. The mixed feelings you get while reading the book just feels so good. And the Dialogues in the book are just soo catchy!

Anybody that ties you to a chair at gunpoint is a bad guy. Do I really need to explain this?

Note: I read this book after World After, which I received for free from Definitely Books on Facebook.
Immediately after I finished reading World After, I ordered Angelfall straight away to find out what happened in the prequel that made Penryn's little sister become a monster and why others thought she was supposed to be dead.
By reading Angelfall, some of the puzzles are solved such as why Penryn knows how to fight (at least she knows how to fight with tactics rather than with brutal forces). In this part of the character growth, I see the similarities of Penryn in Angelfall and Tris in Divergent. Both of them are small girls but with extremely brave and bold characters, and the learnt how to fight throughout the stories.
Raffe is sexy, strong, intelligent and handsome archangel with his angelic features despite losing his wings. His relationship with Penryn was built slowly from the dangers they came through together and there goes some romance. However, Raffe denied his feelings on Penryn just because angels are forbidden to be in a relationship with the Daughter of Men. I was surprised to read about the part that Raffe mentioned that he's agnostic. Are you kidding me? An agnostic angel?
In terms of writing styles, I really love the plot and the pace of this story. Susan's way of writing is similar to Veronica Roth - full of actions and fast pace, which is my cup of tea as I'm an impatient person.
I highly recommend this to fans of Divergent and those who like to read stories about angels.
World After - 5/5 ratings.
I started reading this book without knowing the background of Angelfall, the prequel of this book. So in the beginning I have no idea what happened in the previous book.
From the narration from the protagonist, Penryn, I can know that there was a war going on between human and the angels. Apart from the human and angels, there are some other creatures that looks like scorpions which are very evil. And Penryn was supposed to be dead, which in this book, she's alive and carrying an angelic sword owned by an angel called Raffe.
As the story progressing, I was freaked out by the craziness of Penryn's mom and the monstrous sister, Paige. I can't imagine what happened to her with her stitched wounds on her face and her sharp razor teeth.
The flashbacks that brought by the sword to Penryn showed that Raffe is a strong warrior angel with exceptional fighting skills. Penryn could learn his sword skills through the flashbacks. The character growth of Penryn especially on her fighting skills can greatly show at the later part of the story, which she fights with tactics, not brutal force.
Overall the story really do attracts me even though I started with 2nd title. I enjoyed reading Susan's writing style of balancing the narrative description, a little bit of romance and great action of the fights.
I'll get the first book and looking forward for the next title in the series.

As if fate has them aligned, Penryn meets a wounded angel at this moment of desperation. Raffe, the angel, agrees to help her rescue Paige in exchange for her help. The two set off for San Francisco, to uncover the angels’ “aerie” where Paige might be held and to get new wings for Raffe. Of course, in this chaotic world, more terrors wait for them along the way.
I was impressed by the way Penryn's character and her story were developed. The story moves along quickly, with new action scenes around each corner. Yet, in spite of the quick pace of the story, Susan Ee did an excellent job of carefully developing Penryn's character and getting readers involved in her future. She is tough, but loyal and a little broken...just the type of character who makes you want to read more. And Raffe is an excellent counterpart to her. He is an ideal male lead, tough and strong, but a little broken himself.
The ending was my favorite part. I know many people don't like cliff-hanger endings, but I find them evidence of good writing. As long as they don't leave you too much in the dark, a good cliff-hanger is like a Hershey's candy bar...you can't stop at just one little section. You have to keep on reading and get the next book in the series right away. Or at least that's what I did!
