A teen who enjoys reading and goes on a pirate adventure sounds good to me. Thanks for the review!

So happy to have read this review and recommendation. My boys are around the age you recommended the book to, so we’ll definitely have a read of it. Sounds like the author does a good job of vivid descriptions by the way you explained the revolting mouth of the villain. I love that!

Not a lot of books develop a villain enough to make our spine tingle, but this book did apparently. Just for the villain, I would love to read it. I like that the main character has a disability and is poor because these two types of characters are not often represented. Lots of adventures will certainly make this read an exciting read for younger children.

Tales of Davy Jones by Carl Gundestrup: This action adventure/fantasy tale would appeal to pre-teens as they can learn from Garrett's love of reading, his perseverance and determination with use of knowledge gained to find ways around his disability, and achieve momentous accomplishments for the good of others. Noble intentions indeed. Detailed review. :eusa-think: Congrats on BOTD.

I want to read this boook. It sounds like a good book. I like adventure, and since I can't go to see myself this sounds like a good replacement.

Being an avid reader of fantasy this book sounds like an interesting story that I would love to pick up. I love the different fantastical creatures that the author gives the reader in this book - sea dragons, Quetzalcoatl, and other sea monsters! Plus pirates! I have to admit that the over-sentimentality that the author throws in there puts me off a bit, but I'm still curious to read about this boy's story.

I might try this one out. I don’t mind sentimentality, and I like that the story has a clever, unique villain. Thanks for the review and congrats on being BOTD!

I like Garrett. I'm sure he will inspire many. I'm curious to meet The Black Ghost, too. I'll be able to relate with the sentimental people, as well. I'm a cry baby 😭.

I'm always looking for good books to recommend to my students. I especially love how Garrett did not let his disability keep him from happiness, as he sought entertainment through books. There are a lot of subliminal messages in this book that could be very positive and inspirational for young readers. Thanks!

This sounds like a book with meaningful themes. A YA adventure of a lonely boy with his serpent buddies seems interesting.
Feeling upset sometimes may be unavoidable, but acting distressed is always optional.

I think the book teaches preteens on bravery and being guarded at all times especially in unfamiliar surroundings. Thanks for the wonderful review.
