I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing but i only liked the movie purely because the book describes unneccessary things to a large extent and just to get through like 10 seconds of her life you have to read 40pages of description and the most important parts are briefly descripted.

I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and Catching fire but yet to read Mocking Jay. There have been mixed reviews, alot of people have a love, hate relationship with MJ.

I really love the series. I agree though that it can be a tough read for the young adult audience. I had a strong viseral reaction a few days after reading them, basically I felt guilty about how lucky in life I have been. Nonetheless I have reread them all and saw both movies and plan on seeing the rest.

I liked the first book, but I actually skipped the second, and I didn't like the third that much. So yeah, the first was my favorite.

I had trouble relating to Katniss when I first started reading. I can understand how she developed a survivor's personality, but I have trouble relating to any character so casual about killing animals (or being mean to cats). She mellowed a bit, or at least showed a deeper connection to other characters in the second book. That was the one that got the deepest response from me. The development between Katniss and Peta, and the deaths that occurred in book 2 were ones that I reacted to most in this series. I liked that the ending wasn't a look-everything-turned-out-fine type story, but it did feel a little rushed. There were some peripheral characters that I would like to have seen more of what happened with them in the aftermath of the new world order.

My favourite book is definitely also Catching Fire. I was like you very much disappointed by the last book especially by the ending, but also for all the people who were dying. So definitely Catching Fire

I loved the series. I wanted to watch the movies before reading so I wouldn't go in expecting something and have it fall flat. That didn't push out though. After the second movie I had to know what happened to Peeta. I hope the third movie book holds up. My brother hates reading and actually asked to borrow the books.

I have read all three. I couldn't put them down, I went through the whole series in one weekend on my kindle. With that being said I liked Hunger Games the most. What I really loved about this series is that the protagonist's decisions weren't ruled by "love" of the opposite sex (I am so tired of reading books where the main character does stupid things because their judgment is clouded by someone they like). Her actions were ruled by the love of her family and pure survival. I do agree with the majority about Mockingjay I feel like that book was very abrupt. Where it took so long to describe things the first book, it took nothing to describe all the action that was happening in the third book.

I also read the whole series in one sitting so it didn't really feel like I was reading a bunch of separate books but a continuation of the story with a the attention getting "Hunger Games", a peak rise in "Catching Fire", and the resolution in "Mockingjay".

I first read these books because the middle school where I taught was using the series to encourage young readers. So, it was kind of a job requirement. When they finished, the entire 7th grade was taken to a screening of the first movie! But the book was so engaging that I had to read the other two as soon as possible. First, I borrowed them from a 7th grade Language Arts teacher, but then, I just bought all three and put them on my Kindle!

Good character development, excellent plot, and fast action are the three elements that caught my attention first. The students really connected with Katwise. They cried when their favorite characters died, and cheered when the bullies died. Making kids care about reading with a book series like this is much easier!
