Sounds like Garret is the perfect role model for teens. The fun always begins with the entry of a mysterious map and an unkempt assassin. Great review.

What a fun, scary fantasy adventure tale. When I was a kid we used to pretend Davy Jones was in the basement and then go play hide and seek down there. Very scary. Thanks for the introduction to this book. I want to know what befalls Garrett

I like this escapist Young Adults novel. I think the prospect for an adrenalin rush makes it an alluring book to read. Nice review.

This reminds me of a lot of the fantasy books and films I endulged in as a child. I would often dream of and design fantastic, mythical beasts, and loved stories that focused on action and adventure. There aren't many books that feature a disabled protagonist, and fewer still that do a decent job of portraying them in a way that gives them a personality beyond their impairment. I am looking forward to reading more into this book later.

Thank you for reading this and giving it a review!

This sounds like a great adventure book, especially for preteens and teens. Garrett is an admirable character that kids could learn from. Thanks for the great review!

The book tells the story of a young boy Garrett who despite his disability, navigated his way through life and saw many victories. That's actually inspiring!
I love the fact that it's adventurous and teaches lots of lessons, like the idea that if you put your mind to anything, you can do it. I also love the idea that Carl portrayed in the book —that readers will always prevail through, because of all the information they gather through books.

I was actually imagining while reading the review. The pirates and the black ghost, i am thinking of a theme its like the game i played assasins creed theme that would be fit to the story. The very exciting part and inspiring character is garrett he never falter even thou he is born with disability. This is a very good book indeed. Wonderful review!

Thanks for the review. I liked the way the author has established the main character, Garrett - who didn't let his disability stop him from seeking knowledge and finding solace in reading books. I give this novel a pass for now but add it in my future reads !!!

"They could learn a lot from Garrett's love of reading, his perseverance, and determination. I loved his refusal to let his disability impede his zest for life. He uses the knowledge he has gained through years of reading to find ways around his disability and achieves momentous accomplishments, all for the good of others. In fact, we could all learn a thing or two from Garrett's unwavering spirit!
" I think this is definitely something our children need these days with so many bullies. They need to know there differences does not eliminate them from greatness. It also sounds like a good adventure story. Congratulations on BOTD.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting fantasy novel about a boy who finds a logbook for the infamous pirate schooner, the Gypsy Moth. This may seem like good news, but in fact it puts the boy in the way of a deadly mercenary. Well done.
