Re: The Hunger Games- Suzanne Collins (Discussion)

I agree with those who disliked the third book. I absolutely loved the first book; felt that the second was almost incomplete (felt like the Hunger Games were not as intense, likely due to the experience of the tributes involved); and I found the third book to be incredibly slow. I also felt as though things between Katniss and Gale were left unresolved, and his character's ending seemed unrealistic to me. Overall, I would still consider the series a must-read, but I definitely believe that the first book stands above the other two.

I've read three books and Catching Fire was m favorite. i didn't necessarily dislike Mocking Jay, but I didn't like how President Snow died kind of anticlimactic....

I really liked how the first book introduced and explained everything. But I would definitely have to say that the second book is my favorite. It's so much more fast-paced and action-y. I also loved seeing the relationship between Katniss and Peeta evolve into something more. I loved how dramatic the ending was with a cliff hanger, it just made me want to keep reading!

I completely agree with your posting. It's too bad that she did such a poor job on the third book. Did you know that other people have written alternative endings or books to the third book? The third book was a disappointment, because the readers grew to love the characters, and the last book gave the author a way out of writing more books. I guess Suzanne Collins was either rushed to produced books or got tired of the topic. Her point to was bring awareness to children being used in war. I think the first book got her point across. Her job was done.

Catching Fire was for sure the best!! You need the first book to set up a background and Mockingjay to conclude this phenomenal trilogy! But Catching Fire was just faster and more romantic! I loved seeing Peeta and Katniss grow in Catching Fire! In this book it was actually real and I adored it! I also LOVE Finnick. I love Peeta, but there's just something about Finnick. We are soul mates  . This book just had a lot of important character development and awesome action! It also had a cliff hanger. But Mockingjay was..... rough. Good political aspect and war tactics, but with Peeta crazy and some deaths, I was so emotional. Good ending though! I just absolutely love this series!!!!!

I extremely enjoyed reading The Hunger Games as I was able to learn and understand the characters individually; about where they lived, their jobs and a little about their past. I was completely entranced by Catching Fire it was brilliantly fast paced and I read it in no time. I thought that the arena was really clever I did not see that coming. Once I figured it out I was thrilled because it was completely different from the first book, I was worried that they would be too similar... oh how wrong I was! I think Catching Fire is definitely my favorite of the 3 because Mocking Jay was slower paced and I was disappointed that we did not get to find out what the other main survivors ended up doing other than in a brief sentence. However the twist with Prim and Gale, although saddening, was enticing.

I'm going to have to read the series again. I remember that I loved the first one and was a little disappointed in the third. Now, with the movies coming out I need to freshen my memory.

I really enjoyed The Hunger Games. Like others, I felt the last book was a bit lacking, but I still was able to enjoy it..it gave me some kind of closure, I suppose. I think Katniss is the kind of protagonist I look for in books. She's strong, interesting, caring, and goes through some serious personal growth.

The second book I felt was the best. That is what I have never understood.

I watched the movie then I read the first book, and I wasn't disappointed with either of them.

I bought The Hunger Games when is was recommended to me by my then English teacher. I didn't read much at the time, in fact I had just finished the Immortal Rules series by Alyson Noel. The books in that series were the first proper novels I had ever read, being only twelve years old at the time. I was the child who preferred television and computer games as opposed to reading. I liked the Immortal Rules series and was in a serious book hangover after it. Something I never thought would happen to me. That's when I picked up the Hunger Games and thus a fangirl was born.

I read them in less than 72 hours, staying up all night to read Catching Fire. I devoured them. I loved each and every character and for those three days I was in Panem and I was fighting for my life and everything was so real. Being the first books that I really ever read like that, it was so exciting and amazing! I hadn't read Harry Potter at this stage or Percy Jackson, like I said I never read when I was younger, and so The Hunger Games will always be my first true love in terms of books. Anyone who doesn't like them can leave my life because just how could you not love Finnick and Peeta and everyone? Easy you can't or you must be a robot. Simples.
