This sounds like a really good book for young adults,,,and me also. I love to read of kids overcoming hardships and learning lessons in the process. And if there is mystery and adventure then you can count me in.

A moving adventure fantasy with pirates, overcoming a dissability, and pirate mercenaries- this is definitely a book I support completely. It doesn't matter whether the book is best for preteens or not, everyone loves a good pirate story. Thanks for the awesome review.

I love a book that is full of adventure and fantasy, but has the subtle undertones which teach the reader a respect for something is important as reading.

An adventure YA tale revolving around the adventures of a lonely boy and his unlikely feathered serpent friends sounds exciting. Sounds like a book with meaningful themes. It is good that the boy didn't let his disability to stop him. That it was well edited is another plus. I am not the target audience, but I am glad you enjoyed the book despite the "sentimentality" issue. Thank you for the review!

This sounds like a great book for younger readers. The sentimentality you mention doesn't sound like it dominates the story, so it shouldn't be too much of a barrier, hopefully. Great review!

This sounds like an interesting book for young people. From your well-detailed review, this book will instill the virtue of determination in teens despite the fact that they might be physically challenged in one way or another. Congratulations to the author on BOTD.

Pirates, mystical creatures, and adventures sound like a great combination for children. Hopefully, Garrett can make it out okay as he finds Gypsy Moth's logbook! I also love that Garrett did not let his disability stop him from living his life - he sounds like an inspiring young man. Glad that you enjoyed the villains here and that you feel they were impressive. Too bad that the characters cried a bit too many times, but it's great that you enjoyed this read regardless. Thanks for sharing!

It's really important that preteens get the right example from book characters. Garett sounds like such an example. His inability didn't stop him and he is a bookworm. The plot doesn't interest me though.

Garrett’s determination to not let his disability stand in the way of his achievements is inspiring. The villain seems to be a well developed and interesting character. This book would be a delightful read involving mystical creatures, pirates, determined young protagonist, and a formidable antagonist. Thanks for the review.
