You're welcome, and thank you for your kindness.

I agree; I had high hopes for it initially, but it didn't quite turn out as one would wish. Thank you for reading :)

Thank you. Of course I would always prefer to give praise, but sometimes I just can't justify it... and this was one of those cases. Thank you for stopping by :)

I can definitely see that. This book was fraught with Christian "almost-references": the first woman was Lilith, but the first man was called James; the murderous son was called Khan instead of Cain; it was a serpent that guarded the tree, but he was benevolent (mostly); and so on. It felt like the book really wanted to recreate the story of the Garden of Eden but was afraid to infringe "Biblical copyright". Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts. :tiphat:

Nisha Ward wrote: 01 Jul 2020, 12:05 The anachronisms are definitely an issue here. While there are many instances where they can work, the story has to have a good reason for it, or it has to be incorporated naturally. It just seems like the author decided to slap a bunch of unrelated elements together to form the story. That sucks because I like this premise.
Yes, I felt the same way. It might have worked as a children's story, since many of them tied the story to elements that modern readers would understand - fancy dress, combat, self-defense, and so on. I can see a child needing some kind of familiar point of reference to make the mystical elements make more sense. But for a book that was so clearly not child-friendly, I'm not sure why they were included. Thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to offer your thoughts :)

Yes, my feelings exactly. Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to comment!
