This sounds like an interesting book, but I’m not a pre-teen, so
I probably wouldn’t enjoy it very much. I’m not a big fantasy reader either, so I think I will pass on this for now. I loved your review for highlighting various aspects of the book so I could make a decision.

'Official Review: Tales of Davy Jones by Carl Gundestrup' has an elegant style of expression. It is frank as well. This enables the readers to decide their priorities about reading the book!

I'm so excited to read this book. The synopsis and foreword mentioned parallels to Christianity. It made it sound as though the faith will be important in the message of the book. You did not comment on that. I wonder if you noticed anything?

"Tales of Davy Jones, " by Carl Gundestrup is about a thirteen year old boy named Garrett Spencer. He has a bad leg so the other boys don't want to play with him. Garrett does not let this bother him because he loves to read and has many adventures through the books that he reads. He doesn't know when he finds out that his family is moving to Shiloh's Island that his biggest adventure yet awaits him. This island happens to have been rumored to to be a pirate and mystical creatures playground. Before the move Garrett finds a Gypsy Moth logbook which was for a ruthless pirate schooner. This find puts him on the radar of deadly mercenaries. The author has done a great job of showing Garrett's love of reading, his determination, how knowledgable he is, how he overcomes the other boys not paying attention to him and his doing good for others. All these things are beneficial for the preteen audience that this book targets. The author has also done a good job writing, and editing this book. I give this book 4*'s.

I really enjoyed reading this review of Carl Gundestrup's Tales of Davy Jones. I must admit, I was blown away by the sample chapters. When I read that this book was written for a pre-teen audience, I did not expect such a captivating plot. I was expecting a very dry and boring introduction written in a basic format. I am embarrassed to have misjudged this book's first impression and am thoroughly impressed with how the author was able to describe such interesting artifacts so well. I felt as if I was sitting in Mr. Jones' living room watching him unravel this mysterious family locker. I will be reading this book with even more interest and look forward to finding more out about this strange Mr. Smith who seems to be so intrigued with the Jones' family locker.

This book seems to be an educative fantasy novel. I like the idea that it promoted the reading culture in Garrett Spencer at very tender age, and that anyone with a taste of adventure and fantasy stories has something to learn from this book. Thanks for this wonderful review!

Really impressed with the sample chapters of Tales of Davy Jones. A fantasy book with an impressive villain is something that I look forward to reading more of soon.

I am not sure how I feel about this book. On one hand, it’s nice to see disabilities represented. On the other hand, many self-advocates in the disability community don’t like the “disability superpower” thing. I’d have to see how the author handles discussion about the disability and whether it’s a realistic (as realistic as can be in fantasy) portrayal.
