Re: The Hunger Games- Suzanne Collins (Discussion)

The Hunger Games series is the most unique and thought provoking I have had the pleasure of reading, however the third one went flat for me and was boring. It didn't hold my interest like the others. The first one would have to be my fave because of its novelty as a unique new idea gripping me and sucking me in. The second came runner up because it was basically re-packaging the 'hunger games' concept in a different way to continue the story (although still gripping).

It seemed that the third book did drag in certain sections, and it seemed more sci-fi than the first two books. However, it did wrap everything up very well and I loved the ending. Catching Fire is definitely my favorite of the series because of the pace and it flowed so well... I didn't put it down until I had finished!

I do wish Collins had put a lot more backstory into the universe. I know we've seen snippets from Katniss' view in the book and the movie, but since she didn't care, she never made the effort to find out more. I would love to know what caused Panem to appear, and what is going on with the rest of the world, and how they are dealing with it. It's an interesting parallel to current events, like in North Korea and Venezuela.

I agree. Overall the books were great and very interesting. However, the second book did drag on a little bit.

I wouldn't say that the third book was bad, just that the previous two were much more interesting. It's mainly because of the Games, for me. In the first and second books, there was the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. It was action-packed and thrilling just to see Peeta and Katniss try to survive till the end, and all the fighting scenes were really good. However, in the third book, there wasn't 'the 76th Hunger Games' which really threw me off a little. There were also so many deaths of Katniss' loved ones.. It was a little too depressing and emotional for me.

I think this could make a great spin off series! The war that brought Panem to be, and ending it when they 'destroyed" district 13.

The Hunger Games is a series of books that if truly thought about could bring an audience to tears. In this society, where children are forced to fight for their lives, simply to prove that the government is supreme, is a terrifying thought. The characters that we find in this book series are typical heroes. They come from the worst life scenarios and through love and determination and kindness, somehow escape their assumed fate. Through their example they have now brought hope to a hopeless society. While this a noble notion, it is certainly not unique. It is well written and the characters were well developed. The story line itself is intriguing and yet simple. This is a simple read and therefore very well suited for young adults and children who love to read.

I think the third book was supposed to be more sic-fi. I mean, she WAS battling with the Capitol now. They were known for having everything at their fingertips, which you would catch glimpses of in the arena and in the training center. I think the third book was really showing just what the capitol was capable of to make it seem harder for Katniss to be able to succeed. They purposly kept the other districts poor and suffering. I loved all three of them. One of my favorite series.

Good book. Very creative. I haven't seen a book like it. It's an interesting read. I love how it's based in the future. It incoperates a new map and how the contanets move.

This is one of my favourite trilogies. I loved all three books and they were all very exciting and full of suspense for me.

I really liked the book the first time I read it, but over the years, I find the books less exhilarating than before. I really enjoyed reading the books though and think that the plot is very unique.

I also ADORED this series, and felt that it kept the same intensity and fast pace throughout the entire series. If anything was wrong with this series it'd have to be that it's over. I hope that Collins writes more fantastic books like the Hunger Games Trilogy, if she hasn't already!

This series had me hooked. My expectations were low when I first began it (another YA dystopian?), but I was quickly intrigued by the premise and the intensity of the plot. I did find Katniss's narrative perspective a little grating at times, but her softness for Prim and unquenchable fighting spirit meant she'd won me over by the end of the first book. I devoured the rest of the series, and found myself in awe of the complexity of Collin's project - not only had she created a thrilling, inspiring story for young readers, but she had also dealt responsibly with social issues like poverty and inequality without flinching from their reality. I enjoyed this series and, surprisingly, their movie adaptations too! This is one that'll stick around on my go-to reading shelf for some time.

I remember it was Christmas when I got the first book. I finished it that day and just HAD to have the 2nd one ASAP. My emotions were on a Rollercoaster during that book. I did like that Peeta was given some strength and independence in book 2. I definitely came to love him which I don't think the movies did Peeta justice. I was the same way with the 3rd. It dragged on.
