This book, "The Futility of Vengeance" by Adam Guest, has a beautiful plot. And I hope Gary is able to find Mitchelle's actual killer. I'm looking forward to the whole story. Congratulations on the book of the day.

Great review. This science fiction novel seems like a movie a guy getting punished for a crime he never committed while the murderer is busy living life in an alternate dimension.

This is an incredibly detailed and insightful review. thank you for sharing! Although I haven't read the book yet. The concept of lucid dreaming and alternate realities is especially fascinating. I’m definitely going to read Worldlines first!

Having read this sequel to Adam Guests A Many Worlds Novel, I can tell that the reviewer did an amazing job of summarizing the first book along with this current book. A lot occurred, especially since there were so many Garys, but the reviewer handled it with expertise. This was a perfect review, in my opinion.

Wow! this is indeed a great write up. It's so fascinating. But how can someone be in prison for an offense he/she didn't commit? I would like to read more. The reviewer did an amazing job

I guess that I'm too old for this sort of book because stories with worldlines just confuse me. I'm glad that you enjoyed the book, and I am sure that others will as well. Thanks for the review!

The existence of a multi-verse is a well-worn science fiction subject. Because of distinct possibilities of paradoxes, very few stories about multiple universes make any sense at all. I am interested to read both books to see if this author succeeded. Your review is intriguing. Thanks for the great review.

Overall, The Futility of Vengeance offers a thought-provoking continuation of Gary Jackson's journey, appealing to fans of science fiction and psychological thrillers interested in the complexities of parallel universes and the human psyche.

The review of The Futility of Vengeance by Adam Guest is articulate, informative, and generally well-structured. It succeeds in conveying the book’s central themes, particularly its speculative science-fiction premise involving multiverses and lucid dreaming. The reviewer offers a compelling summary of the plot while highlighting the emotional weight of Gary Jackson’s unjust incarceration and relentless pursuit of justice.

A standout strength of the review lies in the clear appreciation for narrative coherence. Despite the complex “Many Worlds” concept, the reviewer commends the author for maintaining continuity across timelines—a crucial point for potential readers wary of confusion in multiverse fiction. The emotional engagement, especially the empathetic response to Sinead’s repeated grief, is also handled thoughtfully.

While the review praises the novel's coherence across timelines, it briefly mentions the repetition of certain scenes without delving into their impact on the narrative's pacing and emotional resonance. For instance, the scene where Sinead learns of her mother's death is depicted multiple times, each in different timelines. Although this repetition underscores the multiverse concept, it may lead to emotional fatigue for readers, as the repeated grief can diminish its poignancy. A more in-depth analysis of how these recurring scenes affect the story's rhythm and the reader's engagement would provide a more balanced critique.

How disheartening it is for innocent victims to pay for crimes they did not commit. Sadly, our society has degenerated to such state today. Adam Guest's "The Futility of Vengeance" examines the injustice of incarcerating innocent people and spotlights the failure of the justice system in handling such matters. It'll be great to know how Gary proved his innocence and got justice for his murdered girlfriend.

Such an incredible job done by the author, this book is one of a kind. Actually Gary Jackson is a brave guy and i can feel his pain especially when you have been accused of a crime you know nothing about. Anyways i would love to read this book over again. :techie-studyingbrown:

A very interesting book "The Futility of Vengeance" by Adam Guest, which basically revolves around life of Gary, who faced a trial and punishment for a crime he didn’t commit. The story showing the possibility of having a multiverse makes it appealing.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Adam Guest returns with a gripping sequel to World lines, continuing his imaginative exploration of the multiverse in The Futility of Vengeance. The novel picks up with alternate versions of the protagonist, Gary Jackson, each diverging along radically different paths due to a pivotal event—the murder trial for Michelle’s death.

One Gary has been convicted and imprisoned, stewing in resentment and growing obsessed with lucid dreaming as a means to cross into other realities. Another walks free, but his life is far from peaceful—hounded by media, haunted by guilt, and ostracized by those who believe he escaped justice. Both versions grapple with vengeance in uniquely psychological ways, blurring the line between dream and reality.

Guest masterfully uses the concept of parallel world lines to highlight how a single decision can reshape a life. The characters are well-differentiated—even the various "Garys" feel like distinct individuals with unique motives and internal conflicts. The lucid dreaming element adds a cerebral layer, offering both a philosophical and metaphysical lens through which revenge and justice are examined.

However, the complexity of the multiple timelines can become a bit overwhelming, especially if the reader hasn't read World lines first. This sequel assumes familiarity with the original and wastes little time recapping prior events, which may make it harder for new readers to fully engage.

Still, The Futility of Vengeance is a smart, thought-provoking thriller that blends speculative science with deep emotional stakes. It’s ideal for readers who enjoy mind-bending plots, ethical quandaries, and stories where the lines between reality and possibility are constantly shifting.

I really highly recommended for fans of multiverse fiction and psychological thrillers but be sure to start with World lines first.
