The Hunger Game Series reminded me of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. The relationship between the two how I see it is how there are castes-which relate to the districts, each caste has a set "job" and the districts are known for something.

Really like this series, my daughter started my interest and it was a fun read. The time when I was reading it had to ask her to get it from the teen section for me, as the regular area books at the library were all checked out.

Personally, I think all the books are amazingly plotted and phenomenally written. Many say the first and second books are their favorite, but mine is the third. Yes, the first and second books are action packed and exciting, but the third is, I believe, the book where we really get to see Katniss's internal war. We get a look into a mind suffering from post traumatic stress and anxiety from a horrendous event it endured not once, but twice. Mockingjay humanised Katniss and helped us to understand the pain and anguish antagonizing her mind.

I agree with you. The first book drew me in, after all when I read it I knew nothing of the book. The pacing and the ending made it very likely for to be part of a series but would have still been okay as a stand alone book. The second book was the book I most liked out of the three because I honestly thought I seen it all, I did not for once think she could survive the games AGAIN. The third book was okay, I liked it but the ending was one of pain and resignation; like the girl who ends up marrying her childhood love even though she outgrew him and met a more suitable match who did hurt her so she returns to an old sense of comfort.

I really think Suzanne Collins out did herself with this book series, movies included.I'm not huge on novels in this subject, but after reading the First Hunger Games,i have to admit it was kind of addicted. The whole story line is so fantastic,so well put together, full of action, never a dull moment...She has to be one of the most imaginable authors in this subject .It makes you wonder what possibilities our own government has in store for the future,it will definitely make you think...

The Hunger Games series was one of the best series I had ever read even though the last book was difficult to plow through. The writing was in dire need of a no-nonsense editor but the overall story was awesome though a bit cliche now. The best part for me was the ending of the third book, I understood the meaning of shell-shock right there and then!

No way, my favourite is Catching Fire too! I liked it the most because it's when Katniss realises what she's gotten herself into and the idea of a rebellion really comes together. :D

I just finished rereading this series a few weeks ago. It's honestly one of my favorite series of all time. There aren't a whole lot of series out there that have made me sob like a baby as many times as this one has, between the three books. The amount of tragedy and violence can seem insurmountable, so it's really inspiring when Katniss still fights.

I'm a little confused by the dislike for the third book, as well. While it's definitely a different setting, I thought it tied everything up really well and realistically. Rather than glorify war, regardless of the side you're on, it showed the realistic consequences war and oppression has on a person's mind. It was slow at first - but that didn't bother me, because I still found it faster paced than the first chunk of Catching Fire. *Ducks rotten tomatoes*

The back half of Catching Fire is absolutely thrilling, but I found the first part of it a bit dull on my first read. I enjoyed it a LOT more on reread, but the first time through it was tough to get through. I will admit, though, that I was absolutely crushed by Katniss having to go back in. And once Katniss accepts her fate and enters the ring again, the book becomes really iconic. I love it. The second half completely makes up for the first part.

The third book had probably the most amount of epic moments and quotes, in my opinion. The second one also had its fair share. I don't think my jaw dropped with either of them quite as many times as when I was reading the first book, though.

I'm not sure which one is my favorite. They're all really good and have their individual strengths and weaknesses. I'd say probably the first book is my favorite, just because it was so fresh and because Katniss/Peeta was pretty cute. Plus Rue. Rue was instantly loved. This series has a special place in my heart.

I've heard a lot of people say they were disappointed by the third book, but I never was. The first book is obviously my favourite, it gripped me from the first page (which I always take as a sign of a great piece of work). I found myself completely attached to the characters, I think I read the entire series in a week because I needed to know what happened to everyone! Beautifully written and a wonderful creation of a Dystopian world.

For me, it was the first book that was the best. The entire plot was new and I actually loved the idea of the getting to experience the luxuriance and grandeur of the capitol while preparing for a televised fight to the death. Additionally, this book focuses on Katniss and her family, not on war and death. Plus, although I absolutely loved the third book, I couldn't help feeling like Suzanne Colins went a little bit overboard with the death. I mean, she practically killed off everyone important in the series, aside from Katniss and Peeta, the two who should have NOT survived since the odds were quite literally stacked against them. I mean, I know why they have to miraculously make it, both of them are protagonists. But it just seemed unrealistic that Katniss should have survived while Cinna didn't. And I really wanted to see some characters post war but everyone was dead, which in a way, was the point, I suppose. So although it bugs me a bit, o cannot fault her writing. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I watched the movies without reading the books. Must say the first and second movies was the best. I'm not sure if I should read the books after watching the movie, any thoughts?

To me the first was probably the best. The introduction of the hunger games as a concept was very interesting and to see a main character that's not already perfect at everything was refreshing.

You posted this awhile ago but I'll answer anyway,
I think the books are worth reading. Books are generally better than the movies. I think in this case the movies are a pretty accurate representation.

A lot of people don't like the last book because it is quite slow paced and sad. I think the last book is more mature and focuses more on the emotional impact on Katniss than the others. Which isn't always fun or entertaining to read. If you want a fun and excitement , just read the last one and skip 3.

I read them a very long time ago so this is based on memory, the first and second book were the best and the third was the worst. Katniss kept getting knocked out and waking up in a hospital, the deaths were very unneeded :(
