Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind is my favorite. I've read it like five times.

My favourite book series by far is the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. The first book was read to me by my grade 3 teacher back in 1999 and I quickly devoured the entire series. The books are by far better than the movies (this is my opinion) and I believe that it is a novel that has to be passed down through generations. One day the world will mourn the death of such a great author and the books will resurface as a great work of fiction.

There are many fantasy books that I have read and loved, as the genre is my favorite type of book to read. I have read and loved Harry Potter, Septimus Heap, Chronicles of Narnia, Percy Jackson, and so many more. I can tell you, that my fandoms are Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Might become a fandom if the Heap family become a movie!

I loved the Harry Potter series, being that it was the first fantasy series I was fully devoted on reading. The character development was amazing. I also very much enjoyed the movie adaption, but I believed the last movie did not do the book justice for all the information the last book gave readers.

Favorite Fantasy Book? Impossible! That's like asking me to pick my favorite child. ...Actually, it would be easier to pick a favorite child. I really like Terry Brooks and the Drizzt books by R.A. Salvatore are pretty great. I have developed true addictions to certain books. I remember I couldn't stop thinking about Fellowship of The Ring until I finished it. I made my mom mad on purpose so she would send me to my room so I could read it. I called in sick to work so I could read Harry Pottter. It's a sickness.

My favorite fantasy books are TLOTR and The Hobbit. But, I will read and enjoy almost any fantasy book dealing with relationships between dragons and humans.

Hands down A Song of Ice and Fire. LOTR will always be a classic but Martin's masterpiece exceeds it in so many ways.

Let's get some new (old) ones out here. Sherri S Tepper's books, especially the True Game books. Ursula leGuin, Wizard of Earthsea, Anything and everything by Charles DeLint and/or Robin McKinley. I know Guy Gavriel Kay was mentioned but all of his books are glorious, with a special mention for Tigana. Right now I am following Michelle Sagara now, but there are so so many. Just thinking about all these makes me feel like I'm rolling in happiness.

I enjoyed your post because I am a huge Tolkien fan! I discovered the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan last year and am reading them again currently. I think they are brilliant and they remind me a lot of the Tolkien books, just not as in depth and complicated. I suggest reading them for anyone who loves Tolkien. :D
