From a sampling, this seems like an interesting science fiction novel focused around an alien "lord" who took many of his kind to Earth to live comfortably, but those that he took wish to escape from him. Throw in a human "witch" with similar powers to the aliens and a traitor who has told their lord the escape plan, and you get an adventure/"prison escape" story that looks to be worth a second look. Well done.

I have only sampled this book, but it definitely has my attention! It provides a mix of futuristic, alien intelligence with an old-world setting, to present a story that is intriguing, realistic, and believable. The author indicates that she spent a lot of time researching the location in England for this book, and it is evident in the detailed descriptions presented.

Any reader interested in science fiction, with maybe a little history and geography thrown in, will enjoy reading this book. I am patiently waiting for the two follow-on books to become available.

This usually would not be a genre I would choose to read, but I thoroughly enjoyed your review. It sounds suspenseful and worth the read!

Surviving Anstey by Susan Hancock seems like an enchanting book, the fact that it has a great plot and well-developed characters. It seems adventurous too. In that case, I will add it to my reading list. Congratulations on the BOTD. Nice review.
Books are beautiful.

I don't know why, but I like this book's cover a lot. Complex characters and the relationships between them are things that I look for in books, so I will be checking this one out.

This book sounds really great, but I’m not sure if I’d be able to handle the torture and violence. I’m interested in the romance plot but I’m usually not a huge fan of action/adventure.

This sounds like a great historical book. I like that the author alternates the points of view and plants little seeds of suspense at the end of some chapters. This captures the readers attention. Thank you for the insightful review.

This sounds like an exciting read, along with strong female characters, which is always a plus. The book also seems well-rounded on all levels, which is great. Thanks for the review.

It sounds very interesting. It's great that it's exciting and suspenseful. I also liked the fact that the author alternates the narration between two characters.
"You can be more aware and more present simply by resting in the present moment, open to all that is, without trying to control it or grasp it with the mind. Truly, a marvelous way of being!"

This glimpses like the kind of story you call heroic because withstanding a tyrant to me appears like an exploration. One that only a powerful level headed individual appears winning in the end actually though that is not constantly the possibility. Nice analysis by the way. I would respect to glance at it one day.
And thanks for the free sample.

Thank you for a great review. But Sci-Fi fantasy is not for me.
