Re: Favorite Fantasy Book?

I have to say that one of my favorite fantasy authors would have to be Terry Brooks. I love all of his series from The Sword of Shannara to The Magic Kingdom of Landover series. I started reading his books as well as books by well-loved Sci-fi author Anne McCaffrey when I was in middle school and still enjoy them to this day!

The Pellinor Chronicles by Allison Croggon was a breath of fresh air. It had me hooked from the first chapter and really concreted me in my love of Fantasy Books. This series was then followed by the Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan and then onto Brandon Sanderson. I need to find something to read next that is just as good as those, if not better. Any recommendations guys?

I've been reading L.E.Modesitt since 1991 and his Recluce saga contains some super books. I have re-read them all several times. I think that my favourite may well be "Armscommander", but that is just one out of 18 splendid stories. I could just as easily choose "the Magic Engineer", or "The Fall of Angels". They all sit on my 4 out of 4 bookshelf.

An oldish book from William Horwood. I am a little unsure if the book is fantasy as it does have a lot of elements, but at the same time we have a wolf spirit inhabiting other wolf spirits and that sound like fantasy to me >_>

The book is Wolves of Time Journey to the Heartland and it's a really fantastic book. I've read it back to front about sic times now. The second book Seekers at Wulf rock is also a very good book, however it feels a little rushed. I recently found out that there was a reason for that.

But for anyone who likes wolves and a little bit of star magic to go with it, it's a great read :)

My favourite fantasy book would be one of the Throne of Glass series (I,ve read the first two of three). I enjoyed both books and couldn't possibly choose between them.
They were phenomenal in every way. Great story line and great characters with a fantastic world to top it all off.
Would recommend these to anyone who hasn't read them!!!

The Fantasy genre us one if my favorites and I've seen some wonderful posts here about books and series I love. It's difficult to pick a favorite but I'd have to go with Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series - and two books specifically though they are all great - Being A Green Mother and For Love Of Evil.

I won't give anything away for those who haven't read them yet but you can read them in any order. I actually read the third book in the series first (had no idea at the time as I found it in a used book shelf with no other books from the series and the front cover missing) and was able to follow along well.

I discovered Piers Anthony through this series and he's become one of my all time favorite authors.

DATo wrote:I recently recommended Watership Down in another thread and upon reflection I would have to say that this is probably my favorite book of the "fantasy" genre.

I absolutely love Watership Down! I haven't read it in awhile, I will definitely add it to my read list! I definitely recommend this one if you haven't read it yet! :D

Brandon Sanderson's Stormligh Archive books are my favourite at the moment. Struggling with the wait for the third book at the moment. Seems like it's going to be a 3 year wait between the books :/

One of my earliest memories as a kid is watching that old cartoon version of The Hobbit on this crappy old CRT TV with the dials on the side panel. I didn't even realize until I was a teenager that the cartoon was actually a book first, and that the book was a prequel to a much larger series, which still delights me when I think about it. I take a day or two each year to reread The Hobbit, and I always come away feeling happy about it. I even watch the cartoon from time to time on Amazon Prime TV. Anyways, that's my favorite fantasy book so far.

My favorite book of all time would have to be "The Wishsong of Shannara", by Terry Brooks. It has a good mix of magic and adventure and a believable world that a reader can quickly jump into quickly. The heroine Brin is a strong young lady and a good role model for readers. Jair on the other hand has some issues with self esteem and wants to be part of the action. With Allanon as the trusted druid guide Brin is well on the way to helping save the world.

The book and the Shannara series as a whole is not all fun and games though. Readers beware that if you are looking for an escape from the real world you will be sorrily disappointed as I was. Though I do enjoy reality and like to read believable stories this is written by someone who enjoys death in stories. Killing a main character is a sport for the author. If your world is all to full of death, please try to find another series. Please do not get hooked on this series because it will pull you in time and time again just to rip your heart out as you read.

As I said before The Wishsong of Shannara is my favorite book. I love the Shannara series, but I also seek an escape from the real world. An escape to a place where we can enjoy a good story without death being written into the plot line.

I absolutely adore the Inheritance Cycle. I am a BIG fantasy reader and I read almost all the teen fantasy books in the book store. I remember picking up the first book, Eragon in the third grade and I bought the whole series the very next day... And I locked myself in my room and read the entire series in one day. I thought my eyes were boiling and about to fall out of my skull>_<
Hopefully y'all will enjoy this series as much as I do.

Hi everyone, I'm new here :) My very favorite book of all time is the Revenge of Althalus by David Eddings. It's a single novel but absolutely amazing, its humorous, dramatic with a love story throw in. Everything written by David Eddings is amazing but this one is fantastic
