Always has been my favorite fantasy book. My only wish would be that Aragorn was in this one, as well as the Lord of the Rings. I just love how the adventure never stops, and so many interesting takes on the mythical creatures of fantasy worlds are presented in such a fun way.

For younger readers (pre-teens to young adult) the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander is great. The fifth and last book, The High King is the best in my opinion. The second book The Black Cauldron was made into a Disney movie, though I've never watched it because I feel that they probably ruined it.

I read a book called Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury for school, and it was very interesting. It was written in the 1950s when the fear of communism was around, and the book is based off what would happen if the government controlled, and made the law , that books are illegal. It's very interesting, and just shows you what could happen in the future if no one stood up for what they believed in.

Cant believe no one has mentioned the Foundation books yet by I. Asimov, great series and highly recommend to those who like hard sci-fi.

On the fantasy side, as has been mentioned before, G.R.R. Martins A Song of Fire and Ice is one of the best series I have read, though it seems as though he has lost all interest in finishing the series, and I doubt he will release the 5th book anytime in the near future. C.S Friedman's books in the Magister and Coldfire trilogys are great as well.

David Forbes and his Osserian Saga are decent as well, if not quite cliche. The Shannara series is another great series, though Sword of Shannara kind of irritated me, the others are much better.

I absolutely loved the Shannara series, and Sword of Shannara was one of the best in my opinion. Wonder why it irritated you? :)

Sci-fi:
Hitchhiker's Guide
1984
Solaris
Deathworld 1-5

Fantasy:
Riftwar Cycle
Inheritance Cycle

Plus I'm not quite sure why I've never seen any mentions of Riftwar Cycle from Feist before, I thought it is somehow popular...?

One of my favorite sci-fi books of all time is Halo: The Fall of Reach. I was a fan of the video game series so that made it an easy read but once I got started I could not put it down.

Another popular Xbox video game is "Gears of War" and the official prequel to this award-winning game is a book called "Aspho Fields" by Karen Traviss, who is a New York Times bestselling author. It's about saving humankind, making harrowing decisions and battling the Locust Horde.

It says on the cover that "This novel is based on the computer game with an 18+ rating".

I just read this e-book "Love by the Moon" by Tracey Goldwin. It was really interesting in a romance, erotic, horrorish sort of way. It was a combination of bodice buster romance and werewolf horror. interesting combination and the female villian was a real witch! I just loved to hate her! I got it off kindle books.

Huh, I'm actually working on an amateur translation of Halo: The Ghost of Onyx (which I believe is the final part of the series?) for a small group of fans whose English is poor and they therefore can't read the original...

I have to say that the Ghost of Onyx is also a very good scifi book.
