I have read the free sample at Amazon and your review summed up what I felt for Eliza during that first chapter. I do not usually read a lot of sci-fi books because I sometimes have difficulty visualizing unfamiliar settings but I like your review. It painted a world that I would like to know further and characters I would like to acquaint myself with. I'll add this to my shelf, wishing that someday this might become free or more affordable so that I may read it for myself.

At its core, this seems like a fresh take on the dystopian novel genre. You mentioned that there's a well-develiped supporting cast, too; that's usually key to my enjoyment of a book.

"The Quantum Cartographer" by Kristen Keenon Fisher -- I am pleased this snippet started my book reviews on this forum. 😁
(There may be small, not detailed, spoilers?) Wanted to add; just in case!

First let me say, I've never been into sci-fi; yet, I was drawn in within the first page.
I said "You go girl!", as Eliza bolted into action. She did what she needed to do, without missing a step, to survive the dangerous situation she and her son were now in. Showing the strength of a woman.
Then, a few pages later, my throat and heart ached. I actually "felt" Elizas pain, the sacrifice she made, for the love of her son. Showing the unconditional love of a mother.
As the second chapter starts, I am glued to the book; wondering if Ms. Fisher will take me where I feel I'm being led. I will definitely purchase the whole book to find out!
What hit me, at that moment, was it started with a thought provoking quote. I recalled and highlighted, the thought provoking quote in chapter one. I reread both, and the quotes seem to be off-setting one another. *Shrug*. I am definitely interested in seeing how the remaining chapters begin. Just a quick observation I had.
Ms. Fisher will leave you wondering where you are being led right off! Thank you for a great read. 😊

Great review! Although this story sounds interesting, I'll have to pass because this is not my favorite genre. I don't think I can keep up with all the time traveling.

Nice review, I read the opening chapters and agree with you that the first chapter is reminiscent of Terminator. It looks like an exciting book.

I do love a good time travel story. This one is crisply written and fast paced! I'm looking forward to reading the whole thing. Contrats on BOTD!

This book sounds great! Usually not one for fantasy/action, but I might have to try this one out.

Writing a believable time travel novel can be a really daunting task and they often just fall flat. It sounds like Fisher hits the nail on the head with this one. As someone who makes maps for a living, I was instantly interested in the cartographer aspect of it...guess mapping time is a little different than what I do!

I was on the fence about reading this book because this is just not my typical genre of choice. Your review helped to make up my mind because I am now curious as to how it all plays out. Time travel is a concept that has been talked about for a while and gets one to thinking about the possibilities.
